New England Watercolor Society
The New England Watercolor Society, originally named the Boston Watercolor Society, is an artist-run organization formed to promote and exhibit work by watercolor painters. It was also at one time known as the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. It is headquartered in Plymouth, Massachusetts. History Founded as the Boston Watercolor Society, the group held its first exhibition in 1885, showing works by Childe Hassam, George Randolph Barse, and other artists. In 1892, the group's name was changed to the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters, and in 1966 it was changed back to the Boston Watercolor Society. In 1980, with a growing membership and expanding locales for exhibits, the name was changed to the New England Watercolor Society (NEWS). Andrew Wyeth was made an honorary member a few years before his death in 2009. Childe Hassam
Frederick Childe Hassam (; October 17, 1859 – August 27, 1935) was an American Impressionist painter, noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Along with Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, Hassam was instrumental in promulgating Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and museums. He produced over 3,000 paintings, oils, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs over the course of his career, and was an influential American artist of the early 20th century. Early years Hassam was known to all as "Childe" (pronounced like ''child''), a name taken from an uncle. Hassam was born in the family home on Olney Street on Meeting House Hill in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, on October 17, 1859. George Randolph Barse
George Randolph Barse Jr. (July 31, 1861 – February 25, 1938) was an American artist and illustrator. Born in Detroit, Barse attended public schools in Kansas City and went to Paris in 1878, where he spent five years training at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in the atelier of Alexandre Cabanel, and at the Académie Julien under Jules Joseph Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. Barse returned to the United States for a few years, partly in New York and partly in the Texas panhandle, before returning to Europe in 1889. His six years in Italy included his marriage to Italian model Rosina Ferrara, muse of John Singer Sargent and others, in 1891. They were married until her death from pneumonia in 1934. Boston Art Club
The Boston Art Club, Boston, Massachusetts, serves to help its members, as well as non-members, to access the world of fine art. It currently has more than 250 members. History The Boston Art Club was first conceived in Boston in 1854 with the consolidation of efforts between local artists, including Benjamin Champney, Alfred Ordway, Samuel Lancaster Gerry and Walter Brackett. Their desire was to form a democratic organization where the European tradition of independent, master-artists would be replaced with cooperation in the promotion, sale and education of art. They held their first official meeting on New Year's Day, 1855, when they named themselves the Boston Art Club. The Boston Watercolor Club (sometimes written Boston Water Color Club) was a society formed in 1887 to promote women watercolor artists in and around Boston, Massachusetts. History The Boston Watercolor Club was formed in 1887 to promote and exhibit the work of women artists at a time when they were barred from admission to the male-run Boston Watercolor Society. The group held annual exhibitions. In 1896 the group began admitting male members, and artists such as John La Farge and Maurice Prendergast joined the club. The group had counterparts in other cities, including the Baltimore Watercolor Club, founded in 1885 because women artists were barred from the Charcoal Club of Baltimore. Frank Weston Benson
Frank Weston Benson, frequently referred to as Frank W. Benson, (March 24, 1862 – November 15, 1951) was an American artist from Salem, Massachusetts known for his Realism (arts), Realistic portraits, American Impressionism, American Impressionist paintings, watercolors and etchings. He began his career painting portraits of distinguished families and murals for the Library of Congress. Some of his best known paintings (''Eleanor'', Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; ''Summer'', Rhode Island School of Design Museum) depict his daughters outdoors at Benson's summer home, Wooster Farm, on the island of North Haven, Maine. John Singer Sargent

Charles Herbert Woodbury
Charles Herbert Woodbury (July 14, 1864 – January 21, 1940), was an American marine painter. Biography Charles H. Woodbury was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, where his earliest work was part of the oeuvre of the group later known as the Lynn Beach Painters. While an undergraduate at MIT he became a regular exhibitor at, and at 19 the youngest member of, the Boston Art Club . After graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (with degree in Mechanical Engineering), in 1886 Woodbury had great success painting up the New England coast and in the towns and beaches of Nova Scotia and exhibiting the results. Andrew Wyeth
Andrew Newell Wyeth ( ; July 12, 1917 – January 16, 2009) was an American visual artist, primarily a realist painter, working predominantly in a regionalist style.
