New England PGA Championship
The New England PGA Championship is a golf tournament that is the championship of the New England section of the PGA of America. The New England section encompasses the states of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont (The other New England state (Connecticut) has its own PGA Section). It has been played annually since 1921 at a variety of courses in those states. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Bob Menne
Robert Menne (February 19, 1942 – June 2, 2023) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour, the Champions Tour, and the European Seniors Tour. Menne was born and raised in Gardner, Massachusetts, where he was graduated from Gardner High School in 1960. He attended college at the University of Miami in the early 1960s, and turned pro in 1965. Menne had at least seven top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events during his career including a win at the 1974 Kemper Open, which was held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He won that tournament in a playoff with Jerry Heard. Menne also finished in a first-place tie with Lee Trevino at the end of regulation at the 1970 National Airlines Open Invitational but lost on the second extra hole of a playoff. His best finish in a major was a T-30 at the 1970 PGA Championship. After reaching the age of 50, Menne played some on the Champions Tour but with limited success. Dana Quigley
Dana C. Quigley (born April 14, 1947) is an American professional golfer. Quigley was born in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1969 and turned professional in 1971. Quigley's career in regular tournament golf was unremarkable. He worked as a club professional for many years and had 18 tournament victories in local tournaments in New England. His best finish on the PGA Tour was sixth at the 1980 Greater Milwaukee Open. In 1997, Quigley became eligible to play in senior golf tournaments, and he soon became a leading player at this level. His first win on the Senior PGA Tour (later called the Champions Tour) came at that year's Northville Long Island Classic. In 2005 at age 58, he led the Champions Tour money list and became the oldest player to win the Arnold Palmer Award for the leading money-winner on the circuit. He has won 11 tournaments on the tour.
