New Democratic Party (Albania)
The New Democratic Party ( al, Partia Demokrate e Re) was a centre-right, conservative political party in Albania founded in 1999 as a split from the Democratic Party of Albania. It was led by Genc Pollo. PDR was part of the Alliance for Freedom, Justice and Welfare coalition. In the parliamentary elections of 2005 PDR won four seats on the proportional list. The party led by Genc pollo who was the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party. Created The NDP which he claimed to be the alternative choice for those right-wingers who had lost faith in the leadership of the Democratic Party and especially in its leader Sali Berisha. Genc Pollo
Genc Pollo (born 7 April 1963 in Tirana) is an Albanian conservative politician. An orthodox Christian and trained historian, Pollo was co-founder and first spokesman of the Albanian Democratic Party. He is a member of the Albanian Parliament since 1996 and held various minister posts since 2005. Early life and career Pollo was born in 1963 in Tirana. His father, Stefanaq Pollo was an academic, scholar, professor and historian. After graduating in Historical Studies from the University of Tirana in 1986 he worked as researcher at the Academy of Sciences of Albania for two years and then followed postgraduate studies at the University of Vienna thanks to a scholarship awarded by the Austrian government. Sali Berisha
Sali Ram Berisha (; born 15 October 1944) is an Albanian conservative politician and former cardiologist who served as the second President of Albania from 1992 to 1997 and Prime Minister from 2005 to 2013. He is also the current chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania which has been disputed. On 9 September 2021 Berisha was expelled by party chairman Lulzim Basha from the Democratic Party's Parliamentary Group due to legal issues with the US Department of State. This decision led to Berisha starting a nation-wide movement to remove Basha as leader of the Democratic Party, causing a major rift in the party's internal structures, between Berisha's and Basha's supporters. 2005 Albanian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Albania on 3 July 2005. The result was a victory for the opposition Democratic Party (PD) and its allies, prominently the Republican Party (PR). Former president Sali Berisha became prime minister as a result of the election. Electoral system The 140 members of parliament were elected using the mixed-member proportional representation. The Demochristian Party of Albania ( sq, Partia Demokristiane e Shqipërisë, PDK) is a small Christian democratic political party in Albania. History The PDK's first election was in 1996, where it won no seats in the 140 seat Parliament but took 1.3% of the popular vote. In the following year, 1997, it won a single Assembly seat while taking 1% of the vote. Four years later, in 2001, the PDK again took 1% of the vote but failed to win an Assembly seat. The PDK was substantially more successful in 2005, when it won two Assembly seats and took 3.4% of the vote. An Extraordinary Congress of PDK held in Tirana on 3 June 2006 elected Nard Ndoka as chairman of PDK. The European People's Party (EPP) is a European political party with Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties. A transnational organisation, it is composed of other political parties. Founded by primarily Christian-democratic parties in 1976, it has since broadened its membership to include liberal-conservative parties and parties with other centre-right political perspectives. Berisha I Government
The first Government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha was the 63rd ruling Government of the Republic of Albania formed on 8 September 2005. Following the 3 July 2005 election, the Democratic Party formed a center-right post-electoral alliance to make a majority of seats to Parliament and form the government. The alliance consisted of five-center-right parties led by Sali Berisha managed to create a majority of 81 deputies out of 140 in the Assembly.
