New Brunswick Route 540
Route 540 is a long provincial highway located in western New Brunswick, Canada. The highway begins in Graham Corner at a junction with Route 122 and travels north to a terminus at Route 550 in Lindsay. Route description Route 540 begins in Graham Corner, near Eel River Lake, and travels north through rural woodlands in northern York County, passing through the community of Maxwell, and by Belle Lake. The highway continues north, into Carleton County and the community of Kirkland, where the woodlands give way to farmland. The highways first junction with another numbered highway occurs south of Richmond Corner, with Route 555, then just north of Richmond Corner with Route 95, which provides access to Maine and to Woodstock and the Trans-Canada Highway. In the field of road transport, an interchange (American English) or a grade-separated junction (British English) is a road junction that uses grade separations to allow for the movement of traffic between two or more roadways or highways, using a system of interconnecting roadways to permit traffic on at least one of the routes to pass through the junction without interruption from crossing traffic streams. Houlton, Maine
Houlton is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, on the Canada–United States border. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 6,055. It is perhaps best known for being at the northern terminus of Interstate 95 and as the birthplace of Samantha Smith, a goodwill ambassador as a child during the Cold War. The town hosts the annual Houlton Agricultural Fair. Houlton is the county seat of Aroostook County, and as such its nickname is the "Shire Town". The Houlton High School sports teams are named "The Shiretowners". The Meduxnekeag River flows through the heart of the town, and the border with the Canadian province of New Brunswick is east of the town's center. Woodstock is a town in Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada on the Saint John River, 103 km upriver from Fredericton at the mouth of the Meduxnekeag River. It is near the Canada–United States border and Houlton, Maine and the intersection of Interstate 95 and the Trans-Canada Highway making it a transportation hub. Route 95 is a provincial highway in New Brunswick, which connects Interstate 95 (I-95) at the Houlton–Woodstock Border Crossing near Houlton, Maine, United States to New Brunswick Route 2 (the Trans-Canada Highway) in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the construction of Route 95, the connection between the two cities was served by Route 5. In 2007 the New Brunswick government completed a roadworks project to turn Route 95 into a full freeway for its entire length. Route 555 is a long east–west secondary highway in the western portion of New Brunswick, Canada. The route starts at Route 103 (Houlton Road) in Woodstock east of Trans-Canada Highway exit 188. The road travels west passing Southern Carleton Elementary School in Bedell, and then passes through Campbell Settlement and Richmond Corner before crossing Route 540.
