New Brighton is a seaside resort in Wallasey, Merseyside, England, at the northeastern tip of the Wirral peninsula. It has sandy beaches which line the Irish Sea and mouth of the Mersey, and the UK's longest promenade. At the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 Census, the population was 14,859. New Brighton is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. It is a suburb of the Twin Cities. The population was 22,753 at the 2020 census. History In the mid 18th century, Mdewakanton Dakota tribes lived in the vicinity of New Brighton's marshy lakes, harvesting wild rice. The Dakota eventually settled a village near Long Lake at Rice Creek and a smaller encampment just east of Silver Lake Road on 3rd Street NW. Immigrants from Britain and France settled a small village in 1858 which included a general store, school and mission church. As railroads were established in the area, millers in Minneapolis formed the Minneapolis Stockyards and Packing Company in 1888. The company supplied home, agriculture, and business needs. New Brighton is a small hamlet near Minera, in north-east Wales. Background This part of Minera parish was originally known as 'City Land', and was bequeathed by Owen Jones (died 1659), a butcher of Chester, to 'the poor of every Company of Merchants and Craftsmen in the City of Chester'. The area was steeply sloping agricultural land until the mid 18th century when a trustee of the charity, Alderman Richardson, encouraged prospecting for lead ore that was so successfully that between 1761 and 1781 some £13,000 were paid to the charity in royalties. In 1868 49 freehold building plots 'in the midst of the celebrated lead-mine district' were put up for auction by the Owen Jones' Charity at the nearby City Arms Hotel, Minera.
