New American Fiction Prize
The New American Fiction Prize is an annual prize awarded by New American Press. The award was established in 2010 to give voice to emerging writers of innovative fiction. The New American Fiction Prize is awarded annually to one winner for a book-length work of fiction. Manuscripts may be novels, novellas, collections of stories and/or novellas, novels in verse, linked collections, or full-length collections of flash fiction. Authors of winning manuscripts receive a cash award of US$1500 and a box of contributor copies, and their collections are subsequently published under a standard contract. New American Press
New American Press is an American not-for-profit literary press founded in 2001, and located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, publishing poetry, fiction and nonfiction. New American Press was founded in 2001 as part of American Distractions, an arts-support initiative in North Carolina that supported gallery shows, fringe theater events, short film viewings, and literary events. When the company disbanded in 2002, David Bowen and Okla Elliott reformed the literary arm of the company as New American Press. New American Press originally published chapbooks, and released its first full-length in 2007, a collection of lesser-known Chekhov stories, each introduced by a contemporary writer. Alden Jones
Alden Jones (born June 5, 1972) is an American writer and educator. She is the author of memoirs ''The Wanting Was a Wilderness'' (2020) and ''The Blind Masseuse'' (2013) and the short story collection ''Unaccompanied Minors'' (2014). ''The Blind Masseuse'' was longlisted for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogal Award for the Art of the Essay. Life Jones was born in New York City and raised in Montclair, New Jersey. Her mother is a publicist and her father is renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. In her third book The Wanting Was a Wilderness, Jones describes “escaping” from her upbringing in a “gray brick conservative stronghold” as the locus of the queer feminist ideology which informs her work. She graduated from Brown University, where she studied fiction under Edmund White, and received master’s degrees from Bennington College and New York University, where she was a University Fellow in fiction.
