Nevis Island Assembly
The Nevis Island Assembly is the devolved local legislative body for the island of Nevis within the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. The Assembly has a total of eight members. Five are directly elected in single-member constituencies using the first-past-the-post system. Three are appointed. Members serve five-year terms. The Nevis Island Assembly meets in Charlestown on the second floor of Museum of Nevis History building. Mark Brantley has been Premier of Nevis since the 2017 election after leading the Concerned Citizens' Movement to victory. Farrel Smithen
The Farrel Corporation is an American manufacturing company based in Ansonia, Connecticut. Today, they manufacture process equipment for the plastics industry, and employ roughly 100 people. History Farrel was founded in 1848 as a foundry by Almon Farrel. During the American Civil War, they produced bayonets and cannon barrels. In 1926, Farrel Foundry merged with Birmingham Iron Foundry of Derby, Connecticut. During the 1920s, Farrel-Birmingham began creating gears for use in US Navy propulsion systems in Buffalo, New York. In 1941, the Navy contracted with Farrel-Birmingham and General Motors to begin manufacturing a rapid reversal gear system that would allow vessels to reverse engines without first slowing down. Charlestown, Saint Kitts And Nevis
Charlestown is the capital of the island of Nevis, in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Leeward Islands, West Indies. Charlestown is situated on the leeward side of the island of Nevis, near the southern end of Pinneys Beach. Charlestown Harbor was originally called Bath Bay, in reference to Bath Stream. This stream was noted for its curative waters. It became the chief town after Jamestown, Nevis’s first settlement, was inundated by a tidal wave in 1680. In the late 18th century Charlestown was both a naval base and a resort known for mineral waters. The town was almost destroyed by fire in 1873. The main industry is sugar milling. Saint Kitts and Nevis is an independent Commonwealth realm with Charles III as its head of state, viceregally represented by a Governor-General. Alexis Jeffers
Alexis Zook Jeffers (born 25 November 1968) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis politician with the Concerned Citizens' Movement. He represents the Saint James constituency in the Nevis Island Assembly, and has also stood as a candidate for election to the National Assembly. Career Before entering politics, Jeffers worked in a car rental company and founded a swimming pool cleaning company. In late 2009, Jeffers announced that he would stand for election to represent Nevis #11 District in the January 2010 general election. At the time, he held dual citizenship of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the United States. Janice Daniel-Hodge (born 17 April 1962 in England) is a businesswoman, politician and environmental consultant from Saint Kitts and Nevis. Career She graduated from St. Francis College in New York with a degree in biology. In 1987 she also acquired a degree from Alabama A&M University in microbiology. She also has a degree from the University of the Virgin Islands. She was a director and chairperson of The Bank of Nevis Ltd. from 2006 to 2016, and is currently a director at The Bank of Nevis International, Ltd. In 2020, she became the first female leader of a political party in the country, leading the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP). In 2021, she departed from the Bank of Nevis International.
