Never Back Losers
''Never Back Losers'' is a 1961 British crime film directed by Robert Tronson and starring Jack Hedley, Jacqueline Ellis and Patrick Magee. The film is based on '' The Green Ribbon'' (1929) by Edgar Wallace. It was one of the Edgar Wallace Mysteries, British second-features, produced at Merton Park Studios in the 1960s. Plot Horse racing jockey Wally Sanders loses a race, crashes his car, and a claim is made on his insurance. Jim Matthews, a shrewd insurance investigator, follows up the company's suspicion of foul play and finds himself deep in a web of gambling and corruption surrounding the racetrack. Robert Tronson
Robert Tronson (18 May 1924 – 27 November 2008) was an English film and television director, born in Chilmark, Wiltshire. Educated at Churcher's College in Hampshire, followed by the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, he served with the Royal Navy from 1941. After leaving the service at the end of the Second World War he determined to become a writer, but soon joined the BBC, where he produced children's television programmes. In 1955 he joined Associated-Rediffusion, and by the end of the decade he was working on television drama serials. From the 1960s onwards he worked as a freelance director in a career spanning almost 50 years. His final television credits were for directing five episodes of ''Hetty Wainthropp Investigates'' for the BBC, between 1996 and 1998. In 1965 Tronson married Nona Richards (died 1987). Larry Martyn
Lawrence Martyn (22 March 1934 – 7 August 1994) was a British film and television actor known for his comedy performances. Martyn was born in London and was a member of the Parachute Regiment. He was famous as store maintenance man "Mr. Mash" in the BBC comedy series ''Are You Being Served?'', appearing in the first three series before being replaced by Arthur English. He was unable to continue in this role because he was committed to the television series ''Spring and Autumn'' with Jimmy Jewel. Stanley Morgan (10 November 1929 – 24 August 2018) was an English writer and actor. He wrote fiction, in the comedy and thriller genres and had more than 40 books published between 1968 and 2006. Biography Originally an actor, Morgan had many jobs as a young man, including sewing machine salesman, debt collector and bank clerk. In 1951, Morgan emigrated to Canada where he spent some time working in the Bank of Nova Scotia. In 1955, he emigrated again, this time to Southern Rhodesia. He resumed his acting career there and was sponsored to return to London after winning a Best Actor award. Upon returning to London, Morgan featured mostly in voice-overs ("Mullardability" the documentary he voiced for Mullard was nominated for the Special Film BAFTA in 1970), although he did have a small role in the James Bond film '' Dr. No'' playing the Concierge in the casino who first introduces Sean Connery as James Bond. Harold Goodwin (22 October 1917 – 3 June 2004) was an English actor born in Wombwell, South Yorkshire, England. Acting career Goodwin trained at RADA and was a stage actor at Liverpool repertory theatre for 3 years. He appeared in numerous British films of the 1950s and 1960s, usually playing 'flat cap'-wearing working class characters from Northern England or low ranks in the military. He had significant parts in the war films '' The Dam Busters'' (playing Guy Gibson's batman, 'Crosby'), ''Bridge on the River Kwai'' and '' The Longest Day.'' Larry Taylor (13 July 1918 – 6 August 2003) was an English actor and stuntman. He spent a dozen years in the army before World War II. After demobilization he got a job in the film industry. He was the father of Rocky Taylor. Taylor mainly played villainous supporting roles in dozens of UK films and television episodes from the 1950s until the early 1970s, when he moved to South Africa in the mid-1970s, and from then on he appeared in a mixture of international movies filmed there and domestic South African films and television episodes.
