Nevada City is a ghost town in Churchill County, Nevada, United States, located just east of Fallon, Nevada near the current intersection of State Route 118 and U.S. Highway 50. It was founded in 1916 as a socialist community known as the Nevada Cooperative Colony, but due to misleading advertising, mismanagement, and possibly dubious financial dealings by the Nevada Colony Corporation's directors, who were connected with the similar Llano del Rio colony near Los Angeles, the project folded in 1919. Churchill County, Nevada
Churchill County is a county in the western U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,516. Its county seat is Fallon. Named for Mexican–American War hero brevet Brigadier General Sylvester Churchill, the county was formed in 1861. Churchill County comprises the Fallon, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is in northwestern Nevada. Churchill County is noteworthy in that it owns and operates the local telephone carrier, Churchill County Communications. History Churchill County was established in 1861, and was named for Fort Churchill (which is now in Lyon County), which was named for General Sylvester Churchill, a Mexican–American War hero who was Inspector General of the U.S. Army in 1861. Fallon, Nevada
Fallon is a city in Churchill County in the U.S. state of Nevada. The population was 9,327 at time of the 2020 census. Fallon is the county seat of Churchill County and is located in the Lahontan Valley. History The community was first populated during the California Gold Rush, because multiple would-be Forty-niners stopped after crossing the Carson River. The town and post office were established on July 24, 1896, in a little shack belonging to Michael Fallon and Eliza Fallon, who operated a ranch at the site. Shortly afterwards, Jim Richards later operated a store near the post office. The town was officially incorporated in 1908. On June 16, 2019, downtown Fallon was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. State Route 118 (SR 118) is a state highway in Churchill County, Nevada. It serves the southeast portion of Fallon near northern edge of Naval Air Station Fallon. Prior to 1976, the route was designated as State Route 62. Route description State Route 118 has its western terminus at the intersection of Harrigan Road and Wildes Road, near the southeastern city limits of Fallon. From there, the route heads east along Wildes Road, through predominantly agricultural areas. The route curves southeastward, and turns east again after its intersection with Pasture Road. At this point, the highway follows the northern perimeter of Naval Air Station Fallon. SR 118 reaches it eastern terminus about east of the Pasture Road intersection, although Wildes Road continues eastward to a junction with U.S. Route 50 (US 50). Llano Del Rio
Llano del Rio was a Commune (intentional community), commune (or "colony") located in what is now Llano, California, east of Palmdale, California, Palmdale in the Antelope Valley, Los Angeles County, California, Los Angeles County. The colony was devised by lawyer and socialist politician Job Harriman after he had failed his bid to become the mayor of Los Angeles in 1911. The colony's land was acquired in 1913 and it was formally launched on May 1, 1914. The Llano del Rio Colony settled in the southern edge of the Mojave Desert along Highway 138 near what is now 165th Street East, in the alluvial plain that spread out to the north from the San Gabriel Mountains.
