Neufchâteau (; wa, Li Tchestea) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. On 1 January 2018 the municipality, which covers 113.79 km² (44 sq. mi.), had 7,679 inhabitants, giving a population density of 67 inhabitants per km² (174 per sq. mi.). Battle Of Rossignol
The Battle of Rossignol (22 August 1914) one of the first battles of the First World War, was part of the Battle of the Frontiers on the Western Front between the German and French armies. To counter the German invasion of Belgium, the French commander-in-chief, General Joseph Joffre, ordered an attack upon the centre of the German front. The attack was to be conducted by the French Fourth Army comprising the Colonial Corps and II Corps. Simultaneously, the German army turned the 5th Army southwards towards the French border. The French Colonial Corps advanced towards Neufchâteau expecting the nearest German forces to be several days march away. Neufchâteau ( or ) is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Geography Positioned at the confluence of the rivers Meuse and Mouzon, the little town dominates the Vosges Plain.
