Netherlands In The Eurovision Song Contest 2003
The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "One More Night" written by Tjeerd van Zanen and Alan Michael. The song was performed by Esther Hart. The Dutch broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2002 as one of the bottom six countries in the 2001 contest. NOS organised the national final ''Nationaal Songfestival 2003'' in collaboration with broadcaster Televisie Radio Omroep Stichting (TROS) in order to select the Dutch entry for the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia. 32 entries competed in the national final which consisted of five shows: four semi-finals and a final. Eight entries qualified from to compete in the final on 1 March 2003 where "One More Night" performed by Esther Hart was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a seven-member jury panel and a public vote. Esther Hart (singer)
Esther Hart (born Esther Katinka Hartkamp on 3 June 1970 in Epe, Gelderland) is a Dutch singer. Career Hart entered BBC TV's ''A Song for Europe'' contest in 2003 with the song "Wait for the Moment". She withdrew from that contest as participating for two countries would not have been acceptable for both BBC and NOS. She opted for participating in ''Nationaal Songfestival'', the Dutch heat of the Eurovision Song Contest, and won. Her song, " One More Night", was placed 13th in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest. She read the Dutch results at Eurovision 2004 and Eurovision 2008. Activism On 17 January 2008, Hart willingly went to jail and stayed overnight in an attempt to gain publicity and money for charity. Teach-In (band)
Teach-In was a Dutch band, best known for winning Eurovision Song Contest 1975 with the song "Ding-a-dong". The band was founded in 1967 and parted in 1980. Throughout this time there were several changes in line-up. History The group was formed in 1967 in Enschede. The first lineup: Hilda Felix (vocals), Henk Westendorp (vocals, later in Superfly), John Snuverink (vocals, guitar), Frans Schaddelee (bass), leader Koos Versteeg (vocals & keys) and Rudi Nijhuis (drums). In 1971, only Koos and Rudi remained in the group, and the rest of the band comprised Getty Kaspers (vocals, in 1976 solo as ''Getty''), John Gaasbeek (bass, already in 1964 in the Stora Combo (later known as Orkest Freddie Golden, he also left in 1976), Chris De Wolde (guitar) and Ard Weenink (also until 1976). Jerney Kaagman
Christina Henriette'' "Jerney"'' Kaagman (born July 9, 1947) is a Dutch singer-musician and music executive best known as the lead singer for the progressive rock group Earth and Fire, with whom she scored a slew of international hits between 1969 and 1990. She recorded as a solo artist also, and after her career, as a singer worked for the music industry, as president of the Dutch musicians' union BV Pop; as a public relations manager for a radio station; and on television, as a judge on television talent show '' Idols''. Career Kaagman attended high school at Huygens Lyceum, Voorburg and was a member of the school choir and a school band, The Rangers. She also completed a secretarial course. In September 1969 she was invited to sing in the pop group Earth and Fire. After the band split in 1983, she made two solo albums and appeared in the first issue of Dutch ''Playboy'' (May 1983). Willem Van Beusekom
Willem Jacobus Marius van Beusekom (4 May 1947 – 21 May 2006) was a Dutch broadcaster and television presenter. He was also active as a radio DJ and especially enjoyed fame as a Dutch television commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest, which he did from 1987 to 2005. His last position until his death was that of NPS Director. Career He began his career in 1968 at the KRO TV. There he sat in one of the first panel of television music programs, Disco Duel of Herman Stok. Van Beusekom then moved to the VARA but remained involved in music. He presented the LP and profound Top 20 pop radio documentaries entitled ''Popreconstructie''. In 1983, Van Beusekom was appointed radio director of VARA. When the NPS was created in 1995 he became director, he diplomatically tried the NPS a permanent place within the broadcasting system to provide. Buma Cultuur
The Buma Cultuur Foundation (formerly known as the Foundation Conamus) is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes Dutch music. Conamus was founded in 1962 by John de Mol Sr., and changed its name to Buma Cultuur on 1 March 2006. Objective The foundation's objective is to promote Dutch music in the Netherlands and abroad. The organization promotes Dutch music projects that benefit and are supported by the Dutch collecting society Buma, and also organizes annual events including the Amsterdam Dance Event, the Noorderslag Festival, the Day of Dutch Jazz and Musiciansday. Nancy Coolen
Nancy Anna Francina Coolen, known as Nance (born 10 September 1973 in Asten, North Brabant, Netherlands) is a Dutch TV host who was previously the lead-singer of a Eurodance group called Twenty 4 Seven. At the age of 15, Nance was discovered in a discothèque by dance-producer Ruud van Rijen. He created the dance-act Twenty 4 Seven, in which Nance performs along with rapper Tony Dawson-Harrison, more commonly known by his stage name, Captain Hollywood. When the latter left the project and was replaced by rapper Stay C the act scored its biggest hits, like ''Slave to the Music''. In 1996 Nance decided to leave Twenty 4 Seven to start up a solo-career, which led to a couple of small hits in The Netherlands. Johan Nijenhuis (born 4 March 1968) is a Dutch film producer, director and screenwriter. Career His 2019 film '' Cuban Love'' (''Verliefd op Cuba'' in Dutch) was his sixth film to win the Platinum Film award. Most of the film was filmed on Cuba with some scenes filmed on Ibiza. The Netherlands was represented by Corry Brokken, with the song '"Heel de wereld", at the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 12 March in Hilversum. "Heel de wereld" was chosen at the Dutch national final on 11 February. Brokken had taken part in both previous Eurovisions, and her victory in Frankfurt the previous year with "Net als toen" had brought the contest to the Netherlands for the first time. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1958 The national final took place at the AVRO TV studios in Hilversum (the same venue in which the Eurovision final took place), hosted by Tanja Koen. The Netherlands held a national final to select the two entrants that Nederlandse Televisie Stichting (NTS), the Dutch broadcaster, would send to the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano, Switzerland. The Eurovision Song Contest 1957 was the second edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Cornald Maas
Cornald Maas is a Dutch television presenter who has been known for presenting talk shows in the Netherlands. He is the brother of Frans Maas. Early career He was an editor involved in ''The Scream of the Lion'' (VARA) with Paul de Leeuw, ''Sonja on Saturday'' (VARA) with Sonja Barend and ''Rolling Fire'' ( NOS) with Philip Freriks and Leoni Jansen. NPO 2 (''NPO twee'', formerly Nederland 2 until 2014) is a Dutch television channel, sister channel of NPO 1 and NPO 3. It was established on 1 October 1964 at 20:00, initially with a 2.5 hours schedule until 22:30. NPO 2 tends to broadcast arts, culture, politics, news, current affairs, documentaries and religious programmes. In the mornings, NPO 2 simulcasts NPO 1's news bulletins with sign language.
