Netherlands Design Institute
The Netherlands Design Institute ( nl, Nederlands Vormgevingsinstituut) is a former institute for the promotion of design in the Netherlands. It was located in the premises of the former Museum Fodor at Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. Its mission was to stimulate high quality design in the Netherlands, to stimulating the interest in it, and to encouraging discussion about the profession. The organization was founded in 1993 and succeeded by the Premsela Dutch Platform for Design and Fashion ten years later in 2003. That in turn became part of Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam in 2013. John Thackara
John Thackara (born 6 August 1951, Newcastle upon Tyne) is a British-born writer, advisor and public speaker. He is known as curator of the celebrated Doors of Perception conference for 20 years, which started in Amsterdam. He is a senior fellow at the Royal College of Art in London. Biography Early life and education Thackara was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England as son of Alexander Daniel Thackara, and Eleanor Hazel, ''née'' Miller. He attended Marlborough College from 1964 to 1969, and the University of Kent from 1970 to 1974, where he obtained his BA in philosophy. Transgenerational Design
Transgenerational design is the practice of making products and environments compatible with those physical and sensory impairments associated with human aging and which limit major activities of daily living. The term ''transgenerational design'' was coined in 1986, by Syracuse University industrial design professor James J. Pirkl to describe and identify products and environments that accommodate, and appeal to, the widest spectrum of those who would use them—the young, the old, the able, the disabled—without penalty to any group. The European Design Awards, also known as the ED-Awards, are annual awards presented to European designers for outstanding work in the communication design field. The ED-Awards is a joint initiative of design magazines from across Europe and endorsed by the International Council of Design. The ED-Awards are judged by a panel of representatives (journalists and design critics) from fifteen European design magazines, while the winning submissions are featured in the ED-Awards Catalogue. Rotterdam Design Prize
The Rotterdam Design Award (Rotterdamse Designprijs) was an annual and later biennial design award in the Netherlands from 1993 to 2013. In the first five editions the work of the nominees were exhibited in the Kunsthal, and afterwards in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The winners were selected by an international jury during this exhibition, and were announced at the end of the exhibition. The winners received an amount of € 20,000, which could be spent freely.
