Netherlands Bioinformatics For Proteomics Platform
The Netherlands Bioinformatics for Proteomics Platform (NBPP) is joint initiative of the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre (NBIC) and the Netherlands Proteomics Centre (NPC). Its main goal is to provide user friendly, high-throughput data processing services to analyse proteomics liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) data based on open source tools or tools developed and available within the platform members and build an infrastructure that will make possible for non-experts i.e. wet lab scientists to run a typical proteomics analysis pipelines and workflows A workflow consists of an orchestrated and repeatable pattern of activity, enabled by the systematic organization of resources into processes that transform materials, provide services, or process information. Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre
The Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre or NBIC (2003-2013) was a Dutch, government-funded organization, that coordinated all academic work on bioinformatics in the Netherlands. NBIC consisted of programs for research (BioRange), for education (BioWise), and for support (BioAssist). NBIC partners are all Dutch universities and university hospitals, and some commercial entities. The NBIC central office was hosted by the Center for Molecular and Biomolecular Informatics (CMBI) at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. History In 2003 NBIC was launched as a not-for-profit organization, to strengthen and organize the bioinformatics research in the Netherlands. Netherlands Proteomics Centre
The Netherlands Proteomics Centre (NPC) is a Dutch people, Dutch research center in the field of proteomics. The research is focused on the proteome, the entire set of proteins expressed by a genome, Cell (biology), cell, Tissue (biology), tissue or organism. The NPC was established by Prof. Dr. Albert J.R. Heck, Albert Heck in 2003 and is located in the city of Utrecht. NPC is part of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI). Proteomics
Proteomics is the large-scale study of proteins. Proteins are vital parts of living organisms, with many functions such as the formation of structural fibers of muscle tissue, enzymatic digestion of food, or synthesis and replication of DNA. In addition, other kinds of proteins include antibodies that protect an organism from infection, and hormones that send important signals throughout the body. Liquid Chromatography-mass Spectrometry
A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container but retains a (nearly) constant volume independent of pressure. As such, it is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the others being solid, gas, and plasma), and is the only state with a definite volume but no fixed shape.
