Nestos ( el, Νέστος) is a municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Chrysoupoli. The municipality has an area of 678.831 km2. It was named after the river Nestos. Kavala ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καβάλας, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Kaválas'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its capital is the city of Kavala. Kavala regional unit is the easternmost within the geographical region of Macedonia. Geography The Pangaio mountains, reaching 1,957 m are situated in the west. Chrysoupoli ( el, Χρυσούπολη, before 1925: Σαπαίοι - ''Sapaioi'' or Σαρή Σαμπάν - ''Sari Saban'') is a town and a former municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nestos, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 245.181 km2. The population of the municipal unit of Chrysoupoli in 2011 was 16,004. It was known as "Sarışaban" during Ottoman rule. The ''Government Gazette'' ( el, Εφημερίς της Κυβερνήσεως, translit=Efimeris tis Kyverniseos, translit-std=ISO, lit=Government Gazette) is the official journal of the Government of Greece which lists all laws passed in a set time period ratified by Cabinet and President. Nestos ( ), Mesta ( ), or formerly the Mesta Karasu in Turkish (Karasu meaning "black river"), is a river in Bulgaria and Greece. It rises in the Rila Mountains and flows into the Aegean Sea near the island of Thasos. It plunges down towering canyons toward the Aegean Sea through mostly metamorphic formations. Keramoti
Keramoti ( el, Κεραμωτή) is a town and a former municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nestos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 115.095 km2. As of the 2011 census, the municipal unit had a population of 5,115, and the town had a population of 1,438. Originated as a small fisherman's village of Greek immigrants from Asia Minor, today Keramoti is a picturesque little sea resort with a sandy beach, several small hotels and a lot of vacation rentals.
