Jan Neruda
Jan Nepomuk Neruda (Czech: jan ˈnɛpomuk ˈnɛruda 9 July 1834 – 22 August 1891) was a Czech journalist, writer, poet and art critic; one of the most prominent representatives of Czech Realism and a member of the "May School". Early life Jan Neruda was born in Prague, Bohemia; son of a small grocer who lived in the Malá Strana district. Initially, they lived on Újezd Street and later, when he was four, moved to Ostruhová Street (now called , in his honor), where they owned a house known as “U Dvou Slunců” (At the Two Suns). His studies began in 1845 at the local Grammar school then, in 1850, continued at the Academic Grammar School in Clementinum. His favourite writers at the time were Heine, Byron, Shakespeare, Karel Hynek Mácha and Václav Bolemír Nebeský. After graduation he tried to study law, but he failed. Johann Baptist Georg Neruda (Czech: ', – ) was a Czech classical composer, violinist and cellist. Life Neruda's dates of birth and death (taken from the '' Grove Dictionary'') are only approximations. He was born in Kingdom of Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic, to a well-respected musical family. After spending his earlier years gaining a good reputation as a violinist and conductor in Prague and Germany, Neruda became '' Konzertmeister'' of the Dresden court orchestra. He died in Dresden around 1780. His sons Antonín and Ludvík were also members of Staatskapelle Dresden. Organist Josef Neruda was his great-grandson. Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto (12 July 1904 – 23 September 1973), better known by his pen name and, later, legal name Pablo Neruda (; ), was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature. ''Neruda'' is the third studio album by the Canadian rock band Red Rider, released in 1983 (see 1983 in music). The album was recorded at Metalworks Studios in Toronto, Ontario. The figure on the album cover was inspired by Denise Sexton. The instrumental track "Light In The Tunnel" followed by "Power" (with vocals) have been used to open Red Rider's concerts on several tours. ''Neruda'' became Red Rider's third straight platinum album in Canada, selling more than 100,000 copies, and peaking at number 11 on the charts. ''Quilapayún Chante Neruda'' is a compilation music album released by Quilapayún in exile in France in 1983 in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the death of the Chilean poet and Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda – who died in September 1973. Background Pablo Neruda was not a musician but he was a major inspiration to artist in the music field all over Latin America, especially for artists of the '' Nueva Cancion Chilena'' (New Chilean Song) movement. Neruda wrote the liner notes for a number of recordings released by young folk Chilean artists under the DICAP label. ''Neruda'' is a 2016 internationally co-produced biographical drama film directed by Pablo Larraín.
