It is the highest award based in Greenland. The medal was instituted on 1 May 1989 in connection with the ten-year anniversary of the Greenlandic home rule. Ûssarĸak K'ujaukitsoĸ
Ûssarĸak K'ujaukitsoĸ (; 10 February 1948 – 2 August 2018) was a Greenlandic politician for Siumut party. Ûssarĸak K'ujaukitsoĸ was the son of K'ujaukitsoĸ K'ujaukitsoĸ and his wife Eĸilana. His grandfather was Inukitsupaluk K'ujaukitsoĸ (1890-1967), who participated in expeditions by Robert Edwin Peary, Knud Rasmussen and Lauge Koch and was the son of K'ujaukitsoĸ and his wife Aimainalik. On 15 February 1970, he married the economist Inger Kristiansen and the couple had one son Vittus Qujaukitsoq, who had been Greenland Minister of Finance (2013–2014) and of Business, Labor, Trade and Foreign Affairs (2014–2017). Ûssarĸak K'ujaukitsoĸ went to school in Qaanaaq and was trained as a salesman in Aasiaat in 1964. In 1966 he left Greenland to visit the commercial school in Ikast, Denmark. Lars-Emil Johansen
Lars-Emil Johansen (born 24 September 1946) is a Greenlandic politician who served as the second prime minister of Greenland from 1991 to 1997, and Speaker of the Inatsisartut from 2013 to 2018. Johansen was chairman of the political party ''Siumut'' ( Forward) between 1987 and 1997, seated in the ''Landsting'' from its creation in 1979. Prior to the creation of the ''Landsting'', he represented Greenland in the Parliament of Denmark from 1973, a position he regained in 2001 and held until 2011. Mary Jeannie May Simon (in Inuktitut syllabics: ᒥᐊᓕ ᓴᐃᒪᓐ, iu, script=Latn, Ningiukudluk; born August 21, 1947) is a Canadian civil servant, diplomat, and former broadcaster who has served as the 30th governor general of Canada since July 26, 2021. Friis Arne Petersen (born November 25, 1952) is a Danish diplomat who since 2015 has been Denmark's ambassador to Germany. From the Embassy in Berlin, Petersen is also accredited as Denmark's ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Eigil Knuth
Count Eigil Knuth (8 August 1903 – 12 March 1996) was a Danish explorer, archaeologist, sculptor and writer. He is referred to as the Nestor ("elder statesman") of Danish polar explorers. His archaeological investigations were made in Peary Land and adjacent areas of High Arctic Greenland. Knuth was made a Knight of the Dannebrog. Early years Knuth was born in Klampenborg, near Copenhagen in Denmark. His parents were count Eigil Knuth sr, a captain, and Dijmphna (née Gamel).
