Neria Douglass
Neria R. Douglass (born 1952) is an American attorney and politician who served as State Treasurer of Maine. Priorly, she served as State Auditor and also represented Auburn in the Maine Senate. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Career Douglass was the chair of the Auburn School Committee from 1989 to 1994, and she served on the Auburn City Council from 1994 to 1998. Douglass began her term as State Treasurer on January 7, 2013. The Maine State Treasurer is a constitutional officer of the U.S. state of Maine. The office is authorized by Article V, Part Third of the Maine Constitution. The Treasurer is chosen by the Maine Legislature in joint session for a two-year term; the officeholder can serve no more than four consecutive terms. Responsibilities of the Treasurer's Office include providing financial services for all state agencies, issuing bonds and managing the State's debt, as well as holding unclaimed property and working to return it to its rightful owners. Teresea M. "Terry" Hayes (born May 5, 1958) is an American politician from Maine who served as the Maine State Treasurer and a candidate for Governor of Maine in 2018. A political independent, Hayes represented part of Oxford County, Maine, including her residence in Buckfield, Maine, as a Democrat from 2006 to 2014. She was unable to seek re-election to the Maine House of Representatives in 2014 due to term-limits. Following Hayes' 2010 re-election, she was named Assistant Minority Leader of the House Democrats. Maine Senate
The Maine Senate is the upper house of the Maine Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. The Senate currently consists of 35 members representing an equal number of districts across the state, though the Maine Constitution allows for "an odd number of Senators, not less than 31 nor more than 35". Unlike the lower House, the Senate does not set aside nonvoting seats for Native tribes. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine Senate usually have outside employment as well.
