Neria
''Neria'' is a Zimbabwean film made in 1991, written by the novelist Tsitsi Dangarembga. It is directed by Godwin Mawuru and the screenplay was written by Louise Riber. It is the highest-grossing film in Zimbabwean history. The film concerns the struggles of a woman in a suburb of the capital; Harare, Warren Park, in Zimbabwe when she is widowed after her husband is killed in an accident. Her husband's older brother takes advantage of the death of his younger brother, and uses the inheritance for self-benefit at the expense of Neria and her two children. Its soundtrack, ''Neria'' remains one of the most celebrated Zimbabwean songs. The soundtrack of the film was sung by Oliver Mtukudzi. Plot Harare, 1990. Jesesi Mungoshi (also ''Jesese Mungoshi'') is a Zimbabwean actress. She made her debut appearance in 1989, in the film titled, ''African Journey''. Career In an early appearance, Mungoshi was featured in the 1989 version and the subsequent 1990 two-part of George Bloomfield's television family film, ''African Journey'', which also starred: Jason Blicker, Katja Blomquist, Allan Jordan, Ulla Mahaka and others. Dominic Kanaventi
Dominic Kanaventi is a well known film and stage actor from Zimbabwe. He has appeared in ''Shamwari'' in 1982, ''Mandela'', ''Cry Freedom'' in 1987 and ''The Midday Sun'' in 1989. He has had major roles in '' Neria'', released in 1993 and ''Salone'', released in 2016. He was also president of the Zimbabwe Actors Guild (ZAG). Background Kanaventi started out as a stage actor. In the early years he was a member of the Catholic sponsored drama center, the Mabvuku Youth Center. In film, he had parts in ''Shamwari'' and ''Cry Freedom'', both films in the 1980s. Kubi Chaza Indi is a Zimbabwean development activist and businesswoman. Under her maiden name, Kubi Chaza, she was an actress in the United Kingdom, appearing in '' Live and Let Die'' in 1973 as a sales clerk serving James Bond. After returning to Zimbabwe, she and actor husband John Indi started a company making beauty products. Oliver Mtukudzi
Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi (22 September 1952 – 23 January 2019) was a Zimbabwean musician, businessman, philanthropist, human rights activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Southern Africa Region. Career Mtukudzi grew up in Highfield, a poor neighborhood in Salisbury (modern-day Harare) in Southern Rhodesia. He began performing in 1977 when he joined the Wagon Wheels, a band that also featured Thomas Mapfumo and fellow guitarist James Chimombe. They were given the rare opportunity by Paul Tangi Mhova Mkondo, an African nationalist and music promotor, who provided money and resources to the group. He allowed them to perform at Club Mutanga (Pungwe) which, at the time, was the only night club available for blacks under Rhodesia's policy of segregation. Tsitsi Dangarembga
Tsitsi Dangarembga (born 4 February 1959) is a Zimbabwean novelist, playwright and filmmaker. Her debut novel, ''Nervous Conditions'' (1988), which was the first to be published in English by a Black woman from Zimbabwe, was named by the BBC in 2018 as one of the top 100 books that have shaped the world. John Riber is an Indian-born Zimbabwean filmmaker and producer. He is best known for directing the 2000 Zimbabwean comedy drama ''Yellow Card''. Career He was born and raised in India.
