Serenade (Neil Diamond Album)
''Serenade'' is the ninth studio album by Neil Diamond, released in 1974. It was his second album for Columbia Records. Three singles were lifted from the album: " Longfellow Serenade" (#5), "I've Been This Way Before" (#34) and "The Last Picasso". ''Serenade'' was Diamond's third consecutive platinum album. It was also issued as a quadraphonic LP with some songs as alternate takes. Production "I've Been This Way Before" was originally meant to be the closing number on ''Jonathan Livingston Seagull'', but Diamond was unable to finish it in time. ''Serenade'' was the last album for which Diamond solely wrote all the songs until 2001's ''Three Chord Opera''. Critical reception ''The Morning Call'' wrote that the songs "seemed overblown, self-important and banal - pale imitations . . . rewrites, if you will, of songs Diamond already had recorded," and praised ''Beautiful Noise'' as a righting of the ship. '' Record World'' said of the single release of "The Last Picasso" that the ...

It contained the second of his #1 songs, "Song Sung Blue", and was something of a follow-up in style to the highly experimental ''Tap Root Manuscript''. ''Billboard'' praised ''Moods'' highly, saying it contained "brilliant, diversified material." This album, and its follow-up live album ''Hot August Night'', are generally acknowledged to be the two most important recording projects of Diamond's career in terms of defining his signature sound for the future. Within the music industry and among music professionals this is considered one of Diamond's better and more creative recordings. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year for 1972. Song Sung Blue was nominated for Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Lee Holdridge was the arranger and conductor of the orchestra. According to ''Cash Box'', the third single from the album, "Walk on Water," sounds a litt ...

Tap Root Manuscript
''Tap Root Manuscript'' is the sixth studio album recorded by Neil Diamond, released in October 1970. It was one of the most experimental albums he ever recorded, featuring rock music fused with prominent African sounds and instruments. The album was a commercial success, going Gold in three months, eventually certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album's success was powered primarily by "Cracklin' Rosie", his first number 1 single, with help from Diamond's cover of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", which rose to number 20. The latter song had been a major hit for the Hollies the previous year. While the first side of the LP contained five pop rock songs, Side Two was a conceptual suite of related songs expressing an African theme, titled "The African Trilogy". Within this suite was the song "Soolaimon", which rose to number 30 in the US. The 19-minute suite saw African folk styles twined with blues and gospel elements to create what Diamond called "a folk ballet". This effort pre ...

UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. As of 2021, the OCC still only tracks how many UK Top 75s album hits and how many weeks in Top 75 albums chart each artist has achieved. To qualify for the Offi ...
