Neerbeek
Neerbeek is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Beek. The village has a population of around 2,400 people. The village used to split between the Dutch Republic and the Spanish Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned in 1225 as Nederbeke, and means "lower lying brook". Neder (lower) has been added to distinguish from Beek, and the brook refers to the Keutelbeek. Neerbeek is a village which developed in the Middle Ages along the Keutelbeek. In 1505, the hamlet was burnt down by the troops of the Duchy of Guelders. In 1661, Neerbeek was split in a part belonging to Beek, Dutch Republic and a part belonging to Geleen, Spanish Netherlands. The parts were often referred to a Dutch Neerbeek and Spanish Neerbeek. Neerbeek was home to 516 people in 1840. NHV Eredivisie
The Nederlandse Handbal Eredivisie is the top Netherlands, Dutch professional Team handball, handball league. The winners of the Eredivisie are recognised as the Dutch handball champions. Competition Format In the first phase of the season, the top 6 teams of the previous season participate in the BeNe League, BENE-League competition. They are joined by the top 6 teams from Belgium. At the same time, the remaining 12 teams, participate in a national competition. In the second phase, the 4 best ranking Dutch teams of the BENE-League, who automatically qualified for next season's BENE-League, compete in a 2-round system for the national title. Blauw-Wit Neerbeek
Blauw-Wit was a handball club from Neerbeek, Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg. Blauw-Wit played together with its rival HV Caesar in sports hall De Haamen. The men's team of Blauw-Wit won three NHV Eredivisie, national titles, two times the NHV Cup, national cup and one time the NHV Super Cup, Super Cup. In 1998, Blauw-Wit merged with Caesar and became Beekse Fusie Club, Beeker Fusie Club. History Blauw-Wit was founded in April 1957 in Neerbeek. In the fifties and sixties, the club led a fairly quiet existence, although the number of members of both the men's and women's teams grew steadily. In 1978, the men's team promoted to the NHV Eredivisie, Eredivisie. Beek
Beek (; li, Baek ) is a town and municipality in the southeastern Netherlands, in the province of Limburg. As of 2012, Beek has a population of about 16,400, of which about 8,800 live in the town of Beek. The municipality of Beek makes part of the region of South Limburg and lies between the city of Geleen in the north and Maastricht in the south, and lies furthermore southeast of interchange Kerensheide and the chemical industries of Chemelot. It has a slightly hilly landscape with altitudes differing between above sea level, and has two small forests: Kelmonderbos between Beek and Kelmond, and Spaubekerbos near Spaubeek. Beekse Fusie Club
BFC is a handball club from Beek, Limburg. The club was founded in 1998 by a merger of HV Blauw-Wit from Neerbeek and HV Caesar from Beek. Since its foundation in 1998, neither the men's nor the woman's team won the championship or the national cup. The women's team was able to reach the finals of the national cup in 2006 but lost to Quintus. Because the team reached the finals of the national cup, they were allowed to enter the EHF Cup Winners' Cup, but were knocked out of the tournament after the first round. In 2008, BFC co-operated with V&L and HV Sittardia to form a stronger men's team. The project was called ''Tophandbal Zuid-Limburg'' and two new teams were formed: Limburg Lions and Limburg Wild Dogs (later turned into the second team of Limburg Lions). Staatsmijn Maurits
Staatsmijn Maurits was a state-owned coal mine in Geleen, Netherlands. In 1911 the Dutch Government bought the concessions "Maasvelden". In 1912 and 1913 drillings were carried out by the Internationale Bohrgesellschaft Erkelenz in the areas west of the Staatsmijn Emma and Staatsmijn Hendrik concessions. Drillings were made at the towns of Geleen-Lutterade, Krawinkel and Schinnen. Additional shallow drillings were made near Urmond. In 1915 it was decided to position the mine at Lutterade, Geleen. Railways were constructed for connection with the railway Sittard-Maastricht. In 1916 it was decided to name this 4th State Mine "Maurits", after 17th century stadtholder Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange. In 1916, construction of the shafts was begun and the mine was taken in production in 1926. In 1947 the mine was connected to the Emma Mine by a 13 km straight tunnel. Geleen
Geleen (; li, Gelaen ) is a city in the southern part of the province of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg in the Netherlands. With 31,670 inhabitants in 2020, it is part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. Geleen is situated along the river Geleenbeek, a right tributary to the river Meuse. The Latin name for Geleenbeek is ''Glana'', meaning "clear river". The town centre is situated at about 60 m above sea level.
