Ned Grey
Edmond "Ned" Grey (6 April 1896 – 16 June 1974) is an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Cork senior team. Born in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Grey first played competitive hurling in local games in the village. He quickly broke onto the Carrigtwohill senior team, where his brother Jimmy was already an established player, and won a championship medal when the club claimed their first title in 1918. Grey made his debut on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Cork senior team for the 1919 championship. He went on to play a key role for Cork as a goalkeeper during a successful era, and won one All-Ireland medal and two Munster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. Throughout his inter-county career Grey made 9 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1922 championship. Blackrock GAA
Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. The club is sometimes known as 'The Rockies'. History Blackrock Hurling Club was officially founded in 1883, one year before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association itself. Carrigtwohill, officially Carrigtohill (), is a town in County Cork, Ireland with a population of 5,080 (2016). It is 12 kilometres east of Cork city. The 1920 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 34th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 9 May 1920 and ended on 14 May 1922. Cork were the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Dublin by 4-9 to 4-3 in the final. The final stages of the championship were delayed due to the ongoing War of Independence. The Irish War of Independence () or Anglo-Irish War was a guerrilla war fought in Ireland from 1919 to 1921 between the Irish Republican Army (IRA, the army of the Irish Republic) and British forces: the British Army, along with the quasi-military Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) and its paramilitary forces the Auxiliaries and Ulster Special Constabulary (USC). Jimmy Kennedy (Cork Hurler)
James Kennedy (16 April 1891 – 13 August 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Raised in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Kennedy was one of fourteen children born to Michael and Norah Kennedy (née Reed). The son of a victualler, he was educated locally and later worked as a labourer. Kennedy first played competitive hurling as a member of the Carrigtowhill club. He won a Cork Senior Hurling Championship medal in 1918. Kennedy first appeared on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he was selected for the Cork team. He made his debut during the 1912 championship. Over the course of the following fifteen years, Kennedy won two All-Ireland medals, the first as captain of the team in 1919 followed by a second as a non-playing substitute in 1926.
