''Nebula Awards Showcase 2018'' is an anthology of science fiction and fantasy short works edited by American writer Jane Yolen. It was first published in trade paperback and ebook by Pyr in August 2018. Summary The book collects pieces that won or were nominated for the Nebula Awards for best novel, novella, novelette and short story for the year 2016 (presented in 2017), as well as the novel that won the Andre Norton Award for that year and nonfiction pieces related to the awards, together with an introduction by the editor. The novels, the winning novella, and one of the novelette nominees are represented by excerpts; the non-winning pieces nominated for the Best Novel, Andre Norton Award and Best Novella are omitted. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. WikiProjects are prevalent within the largest wiki, Wikipedia, and exist to varying degrees within sister projects such as Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikidata, and Wikisource. They also exist in different languages, and translation of articles is a form of their collaboration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS News noted the role of Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine in maintaining the accuracy of articles related to the disease. Another WikiProject that has drawn attention is WikiProject Women Scientists, which was profiled by '' Smithsonian'' for its efforts to improve coverage of women scientists which the profile noted had "helped increase the number of female scientists on Wikipedia from around 1,600 to over 5,000". Alyssa Wong
Alyssa Wong is an American writer of speculative fiction, comics, poetry, and games. Wong is a recipient of the Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award, and Locus Award. Wong studied fiction at North Carolina State University, graduating in 2017 with a Master of Fine Arts. In July 2018, Wong was hired by Blizzard Entertainment as a writer on ''Overwatch''. Wong is the writer for Marvel Comics's Star Wars: Doctor Aphra comic series that began in 2020, in addition to writing the 2022 ''Deadpool'' series. Wong is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. Fran Wilde is an American science fiction and fantasy writer and blogger. Amal El-Mohtar
Amal El-Mohtar (born 13 December 1984) is a Canadian poet and writer of speculative fiction. She has published short fiction, poetry, essays and reviews, and has edited the fantastic poetry quarterly magazine ''Goblin Fruit'' since 2006. El-Mohtar began reviewing science fiction and fantasy books for the ''New York Times Book Review'' in February 2018. She has worked as a creative writing instructor at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. In 2018 she also served as a host on Brandon Sanderson's creative writing podcast ''Writing Excuses'' for Season 13. "Seasons of Glass and Iron" is a 2016 fantasy story by Canadian writer Amal El-Mohtar. It was first published in the anthology ''The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales''. Synopsis Tabitha and Amira are both trapped in fairy tales: Tabitha is marching around the world until she wears out seven pairs of iron shoes in an effort to free her husband from an enchantment, while Amira sits atop a glass mountain awaiting a man to climb all the way up and claim her as his bride. When Tabitha accidentally climbs up Amira's mountain one day, they become friends, and their lives change. Origin El-Mohtar was inspired to write the story when her 7-year-old niece asked to be told a fairy tale, but the only ones she could think of involved "women being rescued by men or tormented by other women".
