Near Northside Historic District (Columbus, Ohio)
The Near Northside Historic District is a historic district (United States), historic district in Columbus, Ohio. The large district encompasses portions of the University District (Columbus, Ohio), University District, Harrison West, and nearly all of Victorian Village. Description The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The district is made up of about 70 square blocks, with houses developed generally between 1870 and 1920. Architectural styles range from Italianate to Second Empire, Eastlake, Romanesque Revival, and Shingle Style, with some vernacular buildings as well. District boundaries overlap with the city's Victorian Village Historic District. Columbus () is the state capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Goodale Park
Goodale Park is a public park in the Victorian Village area of Columbus, Ohio. It was donated to the city in 1851 by Lincoln Goodale. For a few months during the American Civil War, Civil War, it was a staging area for Union troops known as Camp Jackson. ComFest, a large, free, multi-day, non-corporate, music and arts annual festival, is held in the park in June. Located immediately north of downtown Columbus, the park is bordered by Goodale Street on the South, Park Street on the East, Buttles Avenue on the North, and Dennison Avenue on the West. Goodale Park features a pond, gazebo, tennis courts, a basketball court, bathrooms, and more. Pizzuti Collection
The Pizzuti Collection is a museum for contemporary art in Columbus, Ohio, United States. It has been part of the Columbus Museum of Art since September 2018. The three-story gallery is located in the Short North and Victorian Village neighborhoods, on the eastern edge of Goodale Park. Its exhibits rotate, featuring artists from around the world. The museum was originally owned by the Pizzuti family, which made its wealth from the real estate firm the Pizzuti Companies. The family began collecting art in 1977, after a trip to Paris. The Pizzuti Collection opened in 2013, and had shown 16 temporary exhibits before its 2018 donation to the Columbus Museum of Art. Circus House
The Circus House, also known as the Sells House, is a building in the Victorian Village neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. The three-story, house was designed by Yost & Packard in an eclectic style, using elements from numerous architectural styles. It was built for the family of Peter Sells, one of the owners of the Sells Brothers Circus. The house is located at the northwest corner of Goodale Park, one of the first city parks in Columbus. Peter and Mary Sells' house was built in the 1890s, with influence from a family trip in 1891. The building was completed in 1895, and furnished with décor from the family's world travels. Peter Sells split from his wife in a widely publicized divorce in 1900, and he died in 1904. The house subsequently saw a range of commercial uses, from an office building to a daycare center, a fraternal order for commercial travelers, a nursery school, and an alcoholics' recovery house. Lincoln Goodale Monument
The Lincoln Goodale Monument (also known as ''Dr. Lincoln Goodale'', the Goodale Monument, ''Lincoln Goodale'', and ''Memorial to Lincoln Goodale, M.D.''), is an 1888 bust depicting the physician of the same name, installed in Columbus, Ohio's Goodale Park, in the United States. The Columbus Register of Historic Properties is a register for historic buildings and other sites in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The register is maintained by the City of Columbus Historic Resources Commission and Historic Preservation Office, and was established in 1980. First Avenue School (Columbus, Ohio)
The First Avenue School is a former public school building in the Harrison West neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. It was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1983, and was listed as part of the Near Northside Historic District, on the National Register of Historic Places, in 1980. The building is one of the oldest in the neighborhood, built in 1874. It is also one of the oldest remaining school buildings in Columbus, built at the same time as the Second Avenue School and Stewart Alternative Elementary, also still extant.
