Near East BC
A.O. Near East B.C. is one of the oldest professional basketball clubs in Greece. The basketball club was founded in 1927. The team is located in Kaisariani, which is a suburb of the city of Athens. Near East's home arena, Near East Indoor Arena, is located only about 2 miles from the downtown center of Athens. It takes its name from the Near East Foundation. History Early history Near East B.C. was one of the teams that participated in the first Pan- Hellenic Basketball tournament, which took place in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 1936, Near East B.C. won its first official Greek League championship, by defeating the University of Athens basketball team in Thessaloniki. To this day, this is still the only Greek national championship the club has won. 2001–02 Greek Basket League
The 2001–02 Greek Basket League season was the 62nd season of the Greek Basket League, the highest tier professional basketball league in Greece. It was also the 10th season of Greek Basket League championship that was regulated by HEBA (ESAKE). The winner of the league was AEK Athens, which beat Olympiacos in the league's playoff's finals. The clubs Dafni and KAOD were relegated to the Greek A2 League. The top scorer of the league was Nikos Chatzivrettas, a player of Iraklis. Dimos Dikoudis, player of AEK Athens, was named the MVP of the league. Vassilis Xanthopoulos
Vassilis Xanthopoulos (alternate spellings: Vasilios, Vasilis, Vasileios; Greek: Βασίλης Ξανθόπουλος; born 29 April 1984) is a Greek professional basketball player for AEK Athens of the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. He is 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) tall and he plays at the point guard position. Professional career Xanthopoulos grew up playing for the Olympiacos Piraeus junior teams, starting to play with them in 1997. Vangelis Vourtzoumis
Evangelos "Vangelis" Vourtzoumis (alternate spelling: Vaggelis) ( el, Βαγγέλης Βουρτζούμης) (born October 30, 1969) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. Professional career Vourtzoumis won three European titles on three different Greek teams. In 1993, he played with Aris and with them he won the FIBA Cup Winners' Cup against Efes, at Torino. In 1996, he played with Panathinaikos, and with them he was a winner of the EuroLeague championship at Paris. In 2001, he won the FIBA Saporta Cup championship with Maroussi. Vourtzoumis also won the Greek League championship in 1989, 1990, and 1991, and two Greek Cups, in 1990 and 1992, while playing with Aris. Nikos Vetoulas
Nikolaos "Nikos" Vetoulas (Greek: Νικόλαος "Νίκος" Βετούλας; born February 6, 1974 in Patras, Greece) is a retired Greek professional basketball player and coach, currently managing Apollon Patras of the Greek Basket League. As a player, he was a 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in) tall point guard. Konstantinos "Kostas" Tsartsaris ( el, Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Τσαρτσαρής; born October 17, 1979 in Veria, Greece), is a retired Greek professional basketball player and coach, who spent most of his playing career with the Greek League team Panathinaikos. Christos Tapoutos
Christos Tapoutos ( el, Χρήστος Ταπούτος; born September 21, 1982) is a Greek former professional basketball player. At a height of 2.06 m (6'9") tall, he played at both the small forward and power forward positions, with power forward being his main position. During his early professional years, Tapoutos was considered to be one of the greatest scorers and talents in his age group in all of Europe. Konstantinos "Kostas" Politis ( el, Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Πολίτης; 21 March 1942 – 18 June 2018) was a Greek professional basketball player and coach.
