Aigani or Egani (; el, Αιγάνη, ) is a village and Local Community () located on the northeastern border of the historical and Administrative Region of Thessaly, Greece. Since Greece's local government reforms of 2011 the Local Community of Aigani is located in the municipal unit of Kato Olympos in the Tempi municipality within the Larissa Regional Unit of Thessaly. The Local Community of Aigani consists of five settlements and has a total of 1,134 inhabitants as of the 2011 census. Etymology The name Aigani can be roughly translated as 'the place of goats' and comes from the or which in turn derive directly from and mean 'nanny-goat.' The Pineios ( el, Πηνειός, Pineiós, , , referred to in Latin sources as Peneus) is a river in Thessaly, Greece. The river is named after the god Peneus. During the later Middle Ages, it was also known as the Salamvrias or Salavrias (Σαλα ριάς). It flows from the Pindus mountains through the Thessalian plain and empties into the Aegean Sea, northeast of the Vale of Tempe, near Stomio. The Vale of Tempe ( el, Κοιλάδα των Τεμπών) is a gorge in the Tempi municipality of northern Thessaly, Greece, located between Olympus to the north and Ossa to the south, and between the regions of Thessaly and Macedonia.
