Ncuncuni Constituency
Ncuncuni (until 2013: Rundu Rural West) is a constituency in the Kavango West region of Namibia. It is located west of Rundu, one of Namibia's largest cities. It had a population of 38,281 in 2011, up from 26,623 in 2001. the constituency had 4,554 registered voters. In 2013 the Kavango Region, to which this constituency belonged under the name ''Rundu Rural West'', was split into Kavango East and Kavango West. The constituency was renamed ''Ncuncuni''; It belongs to Kavango West. Politics Herbert Shixwameni of SWAPO was councillor after the 2004 regional election. He resigned as councillor in 2008 when he left SWAPO to form the All People's Party (APP) with his younger brother, Ignatius. In the resulting by-election in 2008, Rosa Kavara, also of SWAPO, became constituency councillor. 2020 Namibian Local And Regional Elections
Local and regional elections were held in Namibia on 25 November 2020 to elect new local and regional councils. The previous round of elections was held in 2015 and won by the ruling SWAPO party. Electoral system Elections for regional councils are held using the first-past-the-post electoral system. Voters in each constituency elect one councillor to represent them on their regional council. Namibia held elections for their local and regional councils on 27 November 2015. Ballots were cast using electronic voting. Windhoek Observer
The ''Windhoek Observer'' is an English-language Saturday weekly newspaper, published in Namibia by Paragon Investment Holding. It is the country's oldest and largest circulating weekly. it had a circulation of 12,000 to 13,000 copies. The ''Windhoek Observer'' was founded in 1978 by Hannes Smith and Gwen Lister. Lister was the political editor and wanted to give SWAPO, Namibia's liberation movement, "a 'human face', showing the people, including whites, that they were not the 'terrorists' and 'communists' and the 'black threat' that the colonial regime made them out to be through their blanket propaganda." The newspaper was officially banned in May 1984 after Lister travelled to Zambia to report on Namibian independence talks. National Council Of Namibia
The National Council is the upper chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. It reviews bills passed by the lower chamber and makes recommendations for legislation of regional concern to the lower chamber. The 42 National Council members are indirectly elected by regional councils for a term of five years. Each of the 14 regional councils chooses three of its members to serve on the National Council. Rally For Democracy And Progress (Namibia)
The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is a political party in Namibia. It was launched on 17 November 2007 under the leadership of Hidipo Hamutenya and Jesaya Nyamu, both former leading members of the ruling SWAPO party and cabinet ministers. Hamutenya had unsuccessfully sought the SWAPO nomination for President in 2004. At the time of the RDP's launch, it was considered to represent the strongest challenge to SWAPO's political dominance since the country gained its independence in 1990. Rosa Kavara
Rosa Kunyanda Kavara (22 February 1958 – 2 January 2018) was a Namibian politician. A member of SWAPO, she became Rundu town councillor after the 1992 local elections, the first woman to hold that post. In 2008 Kavara became councillor for Rundu Rural West in a by-election of the 2004 regional election. She was re-elected in 2010 and 2015. Ignatius Shixwameni
Ignatius Nkotongo Shixwameni (4 September 1966 – 10 November 2021) was a Namibian politician. He was the leader of Namibia's All People's Party. Life Shixwameni was born in Shambyu, the traditional kingdom in the Kavango Region, and he earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Havana in Social Sciences. Shixwameni was a student leader of the Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) at the dawn of independence and was a SWAPO Youth League leader from 1987 to 1999 and a SWAPO Central Committee member from 1992 to 1997. Elected to Parliament in 1999 as a member of the party, he joined the opposition Congress of Democrats (CoD) in 2000 as their chief whip. Shixwameni resigned from the Congress of Democrats in December 2007, along with 21 other members.
