Navigators (Swedish Band)
Navigators was a late 1990s Swedish R&B and hip hop duo based in Stockholm and made up of David Jassy and Andrés Avellán (not to be confused with the Celtic Rock band from Newfoundland, Canada, with the same name). They released an album that made the Top 30 in Swedish Albums Chart and three successful singles during 1998–1999. They released first single, cover of Joyce Sims' song "Come into My Life" in 1998. In the same year they released another single called "I Remember". In 1999 they released their third and most successful single "Superstar" which reached number 20 in Swedish Singles Chart and stayed there for 11 weeks. In the single "Superstar", Jassy and Avellán sampled bassline from Chic's classic " I Want Your Love". Based on the success of "Superstar" they released their only album as Navigators entitled ''Daily Life Illustrators''. The album made it to number 27 in the Swedish Albums Chart. David Jassy
David Moses Jassy, also known as Dawda, is a Gambian Swedish musician, songwriter and music producer of mixed Gambian and Estonian origin. With Andrés Avellán, he was part of a Swedish R&B hip hop duo, Navigators in the late 1990s. After split up of the group, Jassy went on to writing music and producing a number of international acts such as Ashley Tisdale, Britney Spears, Sean Kingston, Afro B, Snoh Aalegra, Arash, Eve, No Angels, Mohombi, Darin, Navigators, Charice, Ilya Salmanzadeh Heidi Montag, Jizzle, Kid Kapri, Loreen, Petter, 1.cuz and more. Joyce Elizabeth Sims-Sandiford (August 6, 1959 – October 13, 2022) was an American singer and songwriter, whose biggest hit single, " Come into My Life", reached the top 10 in both the US ''Billboard'' R&B Chart and the UK Singles Chart in 1987/8. Early life and education Sims was born in Rochester, New York, on August 6, 1959. She formally studied music in college, learning a number of instruments. Career In 1986, Sims signed with the now-defunct record label Sleeping Bag Records. Her first hit single was "(You Are My) All and All" in 1986, which was produced by Kurtis Mantronik and reached No. 16 on the UK Singles Chart. It entered the US Dance Chart at #51; peaking at No. 6. Chic ( ), currently called Nile Rodgers & Chic, is an American band that was formed in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. "I Want Your Love" is a song by American band Chic from their second studio album ''C'est Chic'' (1978). Featuring a solo lead vocal by Alfa Anderson, the song became a very successful follow-up to their hit single "Le Freak". According to Kathy Sledge, the song was originally slated to be recorded by Sister Sledge; their background vocals were kept on the final track. Sister Sledge ended up recording "He's the Greatest Dancer", which was supposed to be recorded by Chic. In the United States, "I Want Your Love" reached number one on the ''Billboard'' Dance Club Songs chart in November 1978 and number five on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in June 1979.
