Navajo Kid
''Navajo Kid'' is a 1945 American Western film directed by Harry L. Fraser for Alexander-Stern Productions and starring Bob Steele as the titular character, Syd Salor and Ed Cassidy. It was distributed by Producers Releasing Corporation (PRC) and commercially released in the United States on 21 November 1945. It was filmed in Corriganville, Ray Corrigan Ranch, Simi Valley, California, United States. Plot Tom Kirk, the "Navajo Kid", ( Bob Steele) is determined to find his adoptive father's ( George Morrel) murderer. When he finds Honest John Grogan ( I. Stanford Jolly) with his father's ring, he immediately arrests him. While Honest John was indeed part of the gang which killed Joe Kirk, the gang-leader was Matt Crandall (Stanley Blystone). Caren Marsh Doll ( Morris; born April 6, 1919), also credited as Caren Marsh, is an American former stage and screen actress and dancer specializing in modern dance and tap. She is notable as Judy Garland's stand-in in '' The Wizard of Oz'' (1939) and ''Ziegfeld Girl'' in 1941. She is one of the last surviving actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood. From 1937 until 1948, Marsh appeared in motion pictures with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, including a small uncredited part in ''Gone with the Wind''. She became a dance instructor in 1956. Her younger sister was film and television actress Dorothy Morris. Early life Marsh was born in Hollywood, California on April 6, 1919. Her father was a Hollywood stockbroker. Edward Claude Cassidy (May 4, 1923 – December 6, 2012) was an American jazz and rock drummer who was one of the founders of the rock group Spirit in 1967. Biography Ed Cassidy was born in Harvey, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago on May 4, 1923. His family moved to Bakersfield, California in 1931. Cassidy began his career as a professional musician in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and after his discharge held many jobs before becoming a full-time musician again. At one time in the late 1940s, Cassidy played 282 consecutive one-nighters in 17 states. He worked in show bands, Dixieland, country and western bands, and on film soundtracks, as well as having a brief stint with the San Francisco Opera. In 1950, Cassidy enrolled at college to get a musical teaching credential. Producers Releasing Corporation
Producers Releasing Corporation was the smallest and least prestigious of the Hollywood film studios of the 1940s. It was considered a prime example of what was called "Poverty Row": a low-rent stretch of Gower Street in Hollywood where shoestring film producers based their operations. However, PRC was more substantial than the usual independent company that made only a few low-budget movies and then disappeared. PRC was an actual Hollywood studio -- albeit the smallest -- with its own production facilities and distribution network, and it even accepted imports from the UK. PRC lasted from 1939 to 1947, churning out low-budget B movies for the lower half of a double bill or the upper half of a neighborhood theater showing second-run films.
