''Nature Bears a Vacuum'' is a 7" EP released by indie rock band The Shins. The EP was released on the Omnibus Records label in 1998. According to one reviewer, the EP is meant to be played at a different speed (33 rpm and 45 rpm) on each side. The Shins
The Shins is an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996. The band is the project of singer-songwriter James Mercer, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Mercer, alongside Yuuki Matthews (bass, keyboards), Mark Watrous (guitar, keyboards, lap steel), Patti King (keyboards), and Jon Sortland (drums). They are based in Portland, Oregon. The band was formed by Mercer as a side project to Flake Music, who were active from 1992 to 1999. Flake Music released two 7-inch singles and a full-length album, ''When You Land Here It's Time to Return'', on Omnibus Records and were touring with Modest Mouse when the Shins became signed to Sub Pop Records. The album was recorded in 1997 and was released on Omnibus Records. ''Oh, Inverted World'' is the debut studio album by American indie rock band The Shins, released on June 19, 2001, to critical acclaim. Omnibus Records put out an initial run of vinyl distributed by Darla. Sub Pop Records reprinted the vinyl, but the Sub Pop logo only appears on later pressings. The album contains the songs "Caring Is Creepy" and " New Slang", both of which appeared in the 2004 film '' Garden State''. Background The album was released several months after its lead single, "New Slang", had debuted. The song garnered substantial critical acclaim to the point where label Sub Pop gave the band a record deal. The album was thus seen as one of the most anticipated indie releases of 2001.
