WCGS (105.9 FM) is a radio station licensed to Little Valley, New York. The station, with its tower on Fourth Street in the village of Little Valley, broadcasts at 7,000 watts, effective radiated power (ERP). From 2010 to 2021, the Seneca Nation of New York operated the station as WGWE, carrying a locally originated classic hits format targeting the western Southern Tier; the station's signal gave strong coverage to both of the Seneca Nation's populated reservations as well as the cities of Dunkirk, Jamestown, Olean and Bradford, all within a 30-mile radius of Little Valley (such that the previous inhabitant of 105.9 in Jamestown, WOGM-LP, had to change frequencies to 104.7 to accommodate the new signal). American Indian Radio on Satellite or AIROS was a service that transmitted Native American radio programs between producers and radio stations via satellite. It also distributed radio programming directly to listeners via the Internet. Its satellite service ran from 1994 to 2006. It was operated by Native American Public Telecommunications. Programming AIROS carried a variety of Native American radio programming, including news and music. Although primarily a distributor, it produced some of its own programming. The Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS) is the interconnected satellite-distributed network managed by NPR (National Public Radio), and used by NPR, Public Radio Exchange (PRX), and American Public Media (APM), as well as independent public radio program producers, to distribute programming via satellite to public radio stations across the United States. The PRSS is maintained by NPR's Distribution division at their Network Operations Center (NOC), located at NPR's headquarters in Washington, DC. The Seneca Nation of Indians is a federally recognized Seneca tribe based in western New York. The Iroquois are a confederacy of six Native American nations. Traditional social gatherings among the Iroquois feature music and dance as central components. These gatherings are led by an individual who finds lead dancers and singers and introduces them to the audience, also providing dancing instructions. Instruments used include rattles, drums, flutes, and other percussive instruments. Their music is always religious music. Socials within all Iroquois communities are meant to be enjoyed by all in attendance, especially when everyone dances.
