Nations Cup (sailing)
The Nations Cup is a yachting Match racing#Match racing in sailing, match racing competition run by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) since 1991. It a ''"global championship to find the world's top match racing nations in open and women's events"''. Typically, the boats are supplied by the event organizers, with sailors being randomly assigned boats each day, or swapping between matches. Yachting
Yachting is the use of recreational boats and ships called ''yachts'' for racing or cruising. Yachts are distinguished from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose. "Yacht" derives from the Dutch word '' jacht'' ("hunt"). With sailboats, the activity is called sailing, and with motorboats, it is called powerboating. Racing History The history of sailing dates back to prehistoric times but the racing of sailing boats is believed to have started in the Netherlands some time in the 17th century. Soon, in England, custom-built racing "yachts" began to emerge. In 1851, the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes challenged the American yacht ''America''. The race took place in the Solent. The ''America'' won the race and took the trophy, the America's Cup, back to the US where, held by the New York Yacht Club, it remained until 1983. Match Racing
A match race is a race between two competitors, going head-to-head. In sailboat racing it is differentiated from a fleet race, which almost always involves three or more competitors competing against each other, and team racing where teams consisting of 2, 3 or 4 boats compete together in a team race, with their results being combined. In horse racing, it has historically been a format used for one-off events, but in 2009 IMRA, the International Match Race Association was created to enable anyone to enter a one-on-one horse race in all-terrain half-mile loops. Crosshaven () is a village in County Cork, Ireland. It is located in lower Cork Harbour at the mouth of the River Owenabue, across from Currabinny Wood.
