The National Youth Council (NYC) is an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth set up by the Government of Singapore as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs in Singapore. Background The National Youth Council (NYC) was established on 1 November 1989 to be the central body responsible for the planning, coordination and management of youth affairs, based on the recommendations of the Advisory Council on Youth (Feb 1988 – Feb 1989) chaired by Lee Hsien Loong and approved by then First Deputy Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. It was expanded from the National Youth Coordinating Committee that was a non-executive body with no policy making powers, and would be placed under People's Association (PA). The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY; ms, Kementerian Kebudayaan, Masyarakat dan Belia; ; ta, கலாசார, சமூக, இளையர்துறை அமைச்சு) is a ministry of the Government of Singapore responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies related to the arts, sports, youth and community in Singapore. Lee Hsien Loong
Lee Hsien Loong (; born 10 February 1952) is a Singaporean politician and former brigadier-general who has been serving as Prime Minister of Singapore and Secretary-General of the People's Action Party since 2004. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Teck Ghee division of Ang Mo Kio GRC since 1991, and previously Teck Ghee SMC between 1984 and 1991. Born in Singapore during British colonial rule, Lee is the eldest son of Singapore's first prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew. Goh Chok Tong (; born 20 May 1941) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Prime Minister of Singapore between 1990 and 2004, and Secretary-General of the People's Action Party between 1992 and 2004. Edwin Tong Chun Fai ( zh, s=唐振辉, p=Táng Zhènhuī; born 1969) is a Singaporean politician and lawyer who has been serving as Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law concurrently since 2020.
