National Youth Council Of Ireland
The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) is a representative body for Irish youth organisations, a role that is recognised in the 2001 Youth Work Act. Currently there are 43 national youth organisations who are full member of the NYCI, another 10 organisations have corresponding or observer status. The member organisations include a wide variety of youth organisations active at a national level and include youth club organisations, Scouting and Guiding or similar uniformed youth organisations, youth wings of political parties, Irish language youth organisations, and various other single issue and specialist youth groups. NYCI is a member of the European apex organisation for youth organisations and councils called the European Youth Forum YFJ. The NYCI publish a newsletter called Clár na nÓg on a monthly basis. Scouting And Guiding In Ireland
Scouting and Guiding in Ireland began six months after Baden Powell founded the first Scouts' association near the Isle of Wight, England. The first Scouting groups in Ireland were founded in Dublin and Dundalk. These were both established near British Army bases which resulted in Catholic boys not joining these groups. A Catholic Scouting group was set up by Tom Farrell, a curate, in 1927. The first Guiding group was established in Ireland in 1911 in Harold's Cross in Dublin, a year after Powell's sister, Agnes Baden-Powell, founded the first Girl Guides Association. The Scout and Guide movement in Ireland are now served by a number of groups. Gael Linn
Gael Linn (, "Gael-with-us") is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation focused on the promotion of the Irish language and the arts. The organisation's funding includes government and lottery sources. History Gael Linn was founded in May 1953, following a meeting in Cork, with the goal to foster interest in the Irish language and promote artistic events. Since the early years of its foundation, the organisation has also run language courses. In the mid-1950s, Gael Linn supported the production of short films and news reels which were distributed to cinemas. In 1955, Gael Linn established the Irish-language Damer Theatre on St Stephen's Green which it operated until 1976. Foróige is an Irish organisation whose purpose is "to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their development and in the development of society". Macra na Tuaithe, the youth branch of Macra na Feirme, was formed on . In 1981, the organisation changed its name to ''Foróige'', derived from ''forbairt na hóige'', which means "development of youth".
