Chilgok County
Chilgok County (''Chilgok-gun'') is located at south-west part of North Gyeongsang Province. It is close by Gunwi County, Daegu Metropolitan city on the east while adjoins with Gimchon-si, Seongju County on the west. It is also a transportation hub where the Nakdong river flows through and an Urban-Farming complex that adjoins with Gumi City and Daegu Metropolitan city. It is home to the famous Cheonsaengsanseong Fortress, a battle field where general Gwak Jae-woo fought during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, as well as the Gasansanseong Fortress, which was built to prevent a Japanese invasion after the second Manchu invasions in 1636. It is also a battle field of the Nakdong River and Dabudong battles during the Korean war. North Gyeongsang Province
North Gyeongsang Province ( ko, 경상북도, translit=Gyeongsangbuk-do, ) is a province in eastern South Korea. The province was formed in 1896 from the northern half of the former Gyeongsang province, and remained a province of Korea until the country's division in 1945, then became part of South Korea. Daegu was the capital of North Gyeongsang Province between 1896 and 1981, but has not been a part of the province since 1981. In 2016, the provincial capital moved from Daegu to Andong. The area of the province is , 19.1 percent of the total area of South Korea. Gumi, North Gyeongsang
Gumi (; ) is the second largest city in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. It is located on the Nakdong River, halfway between Daegu and Gimcheon, also lies on the Gyeongbu Expressway and Gyeongbu Line railway which are the principal traffic routes of the country. The city is an industrial center of the country with many companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LG Display, having a manufacturing presence and R&D Centres there. Waegwan
Waegwan is the seat of government for Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang province, South Korea. It consists primarily of the administrative district of Waegwan- eup. It is situated on both sides of the Nakdong River, which is traversed by railroad, automobile and pedestrian bridges. Waegwan is home to a Benedictine monastery and the United States Army base at Camp Carroll. It lies on the Gyeongbu Line of the Korean National Railroad, and is also connected to Daegu and other major cities via the Gyeongbu Expressway. History Waegwan's name literally means "Japanese dwelling," and may indicate that the town was a common stopping-point for Japanese salt traders during the Joseon Dynasty. Seokjeok
Seokjeok-eup is a town (''eup'' in Korean) in South Korea on the Nakdong River. It is part of Chilgok and is situated roughly midway between the cities of Gumi and Waegwan. Many residents work at the small, mostly owner-operated local shops. However, the vast majority of the population works in either Gumi and Waegwan, and the village itself serves primarily as a bedroom community. Uprising in Seokjeok (1948) On February 2, 1948, a revolt took place that was triggered by the lack of welfare and support the government gave to keep Seokjeok a prosperous and well funded town (considering that Seokjeok was not a very wealthy town). The uprising later reached a point in which the Republic of Korea's Army and Air Force had to take action. The engagement resulted in fifty-two civilian deaths and fourteen soldiers. Jungang Expressway
The Jungang Expressway () is an expressway in South Korea. Its name literally means "Central Expressway," and for much of its length it runs through mountainous terrain near the country's east-west center line, including the national parks of Chiaksan and Sobaeksan. It covers a total distance of roughly 388.1 kilometers. The southern end is in Sasang-gu, Busan, although for much of the distance between Busan and Daegu it runs together with the Gyeongbu Expressway. Its northern end is in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. The expressway was completed in December 2001. There is also a short branch named Jungang Expressway Branch near the southern end. This is numbered 551.
