Elbert County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,637. The county seat is Elberton. The county was established on December 10, 1790, and was named for Samuel Elbert. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (6.2%) is water. The county is located in the Piedmont region of the state. The northern half of Elbert County, north of a line made by following State Route 17 from Bowman southeast to Elberton, and then following State Route 72 east to just before the South Carolina border, and then heading south along the shores of Lake Richard B. Ruckersville, Georgia
Ruckersville is an unincorporated community in Elbert County, Georgia. History Ruckersville was founded in the 1773, and named after Ruckersville, Virginia. The pioneering Rucker family maintained the Rucker House (Ruckersville, Georgia), Rucker House at the site, which still stands today. A post office called Ruckersville was established in 1823, and remained in operation until 1901. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Ruckersville as a town in 1822. The town's municipal charter was repealed in 1995. Joseph Rucker Lamar (1857–1916), an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, was born in Ruckersville. Elberton is the largest city in Elbert County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,653 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Elbert County. History Settled in the 1780s, Elbert was designated seat of the newly formed Elbert County in 1790. It was incorporated as a town in 1803 and as a city in 1896.
