The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value". A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred in preserving the property. The passage of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) in 1966 established the National Register and the process for adding properties to it. Of the more than one and a half million properties on the National Register, 95,000 are listed individually. The remainder are contributing resources within historic districts. Peninsula, Ohio
Peninsula is a village in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 565 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Peninsula is in the middle of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which provides a source of tourism to the village. Blossom Music Center is located on its outskirts. The Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail runs through just west of downtown, and many bikers and hikers stop for refreshments because it is one of the few towns between Akron and Cleveland. Peninsula is bordered on the east by Boston Heights. It is a part of Boston Township. More than 20 places in Peninsula are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lake Erie ( "eerie") is the fourth largest lake by surface area of the five Great Lakes in North America and the eleventh-largest globally. Independence, Ohio
Independence is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. It is a suburb of Cleveland. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 7,133. Independence was originally called Center and was renamed in 1830. Geography Independence is located at . According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Much of the land area in Independence is used by the intersection of I-480 and I-77. The I-77/I-480 interchange is a four-level stack interchange, but locals often refer to as the cloverleaf, as it largely replaced a nearby interchange of that type. The larger interchange opened in 1940, but construction of the Willow Freeway, which became I-77, was stalled by World War II and was not completed until the 1950s.
