Bloomingdale, Indiana
Bloomingdale is a town in Penn Township, Parke County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 335 at the 2010 census. History The town of Bloomingdale was platted in 1825 or 1826, south of its present location. Originally it was named Bloomfield. A post office called Bloomingdale has been in operation since 1860. The William Hill Polygonal Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. On June 17, 2021, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred 2 miles west of Bloomingdale. No damage was reported. Geography Bloomingdale is located about north of the county seat of Rockville. U.S. Route 41 passes less than a mile to the east of the town. Cayuga, Indiana
Cayuga is a town in Eugene Township, Vermillion County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,162 at the 2010 census. History When the town was laid out on September 20, 1827, it was called Eugene Station, though it was also called Osonimon after an Indian chief of that name. It was later renamed after the village of Cayuga and Cayuga Lake in the state of New York; an early settler named John Groenendyke had originally come from Cayuga County, New York, and moved to Vigo County in 1818, then in 1819 moved to the area that later became Vermillion County. The name is based on the Iroquois term ''Gwa-u-geh'', meaning "the place of taking out" (in terms of a portage). Local legend attributes the name to the sound made by the horn of a Ford Model T. The town was incorporated around 1891. The Cayuga post office has been in operation since 1886. Wabash Township is one of thirteen townships in Parke County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 818 and it contained 353 housing units. History When General William Henry Harrison took an army from Vincennes to the Battle of Tippecanoe in late 1811, Zachariah Cicott served as a scout. Cicott was familiar with the area because of his time trading up and down the Wabash River starting ''circa'' 1801. The trail taken by Harrison's army passed through the area that later became Parke County on its way to and from the battle site in Tippecanoe County. The settlement of Armiesburg was so named because Harrison and his army crossed the Raccoon Creek and camped near there on their way to the battle.Bowen 1913, pp. 52–53, 221. Mecca, Indiana
Mecca is a town in Wabash Township, Parke County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 335 at the 2010 census. History The town of Mecca was platted on August 7, 1890, by Samuel Hixon and his friend Tom L. McCune. As of 1913, its population was about 1,400. A post office has been in operation at Mecca since 1888. The Mecca Covered Bridge and Wabash Township Graded School are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Mecca is located along the Big Raccoon Creek in the southeastern part of the county, about west-southwest of the county seat of Rockville. The main part of the town is on the west side of the creek, but a portion is on the east side; the Mecca Covered Bridge crosses the creek here. The Wabash River lies about to the west. Indiana State Road 59
State Road 59 is a north–south road in Central Indiana that covers a distance of about through five counties. Route description State Road 59 begins at State Road 58 (SR 58) and heads north towards Sandborn. In Sandborn SR 59 has intersection with State Road 67 (SR 67). Then SR 59 heads north towards Linton where SR 59 is concurrent with State Road 54 (SR 54). Both route leave Linton on the northwest side of town. Then north of Linton SR 54 turns west toward Dugger. SR 59 heads north passing through the east side of Jasonville. SR 59 heads north from Jasonville towards Clay City where SR 59 has a concurrency with State Road 246.
