Dallas is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, and a suburb of Charlotte, located north of Gastonia. The population was 4,488 at the 2010 census. It was named for George M. Dallas, Vice President of the United States under James K. Polk. Geography Dallas is located at (35.314816, -81.175215). It is approximately four miles north of the city of Gastonia and about west of Charlotte. Lincolnton is north and Hickory is north of Dallas along US 321. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. Dallas lies within the Long Creek watershed. Mountain Island, NC
Mountain Island is a neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Located in the extreme northwestern part of Mecklenburg County and Charlotte, it is an affluent home to many private schools and lakes. It is approximately north of Mount Holly. Like Steele Creek, Mountain Island was once largely its own township but nowadays has largely either been annexed or closely integrated to Charlotte. Mountain Island is named for a small island in Mountain Island Lake, on the border of Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. Located on the extreme southwestern end of the lake, the island is mainly used as an anchor point for recreation, picnicking, and camping. A cotton mill, said by some authorities to be the first in Gaston County, was established on Mountain Island in 1848 by Thomas R. McAdenville, NC
McAdenville is a small town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is a suburb of Charlotte and located east of Gastonia. The population was 890 at the 2020 census. History McAdenville was incorporated in 1881. It was named after Rufus Yancey McAden, president of McAden Mills, the town's textile mill. McAden had served in the North Carolina House of Commons from 1862 to 1867, and was Speaker of the House in 1866. He came to Charlotte in 1867 to become president of the two-year-old First National Bank. Pharr Yarns, a yarn manufacturing company, was founded in McAdenville in 1939. It grew to become a major employer and sponsored various projects in the town during its existence. It was sold in 2019.
