California is a home rule-class city in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 83 at the 2020 census. History California, Kentucky was founded ca. 1849, and named from news reports of the contemporaneous California Gold Rush. A post office has been in operation at California since 1852. Melbourne is a home rule-class city in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States, along the south bank of the Ohio River. The population was 458 at the 2020 census. St. Anne Convent is located in Melbourne; scenes from the movie ''Rain Man'' were filmed there. Geography Melbourne is located in northeastern Campbell County and is bordered by the city of Silver Grove to the west. Kentucky Route 8
Kentucky Route 8 is a east–west state highway divided into two distinct segments across northern Kentucky. The western terminus of the route is at KY 237 near Francisville. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 23 in South Portsmouth. The two distinct segments of this route were not meant to be connected together. KY 8 from its west end in Boone County to Augusta in Bracken County is designated as a part of an identified corridor for bikes named the Ramblin' River Tour by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). KY 8 is named the Mary Ingles Highway for part of its length. It is rumored that she was the first white woman in Kentucky. Captured by Indians in Virginia in 1755 and taken to Ohio, she later escaped a salt-making party at Big Bone Lick and made her way across the Kentucky wilderness back home to Virginia. Wilder is a home rule-class city in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,035 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky metropolitan area. Geography Wilder is located at (39.047304, ā84.477377). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and (2.89%) is water. History Wilder was once known as Leitch's Station. It was the first settlement in Campbell County. The name Wilder dates back to a railroad station built in the mid-19th century for the Louisville, Cincinnati and Lexington Railway named Wilder station. St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church was built in 1858 by German immigrants. "Wilder Station" is now located on property owned by Newport Steel. Newport on the Levee is a dining and attraction destination located on Third Street in Newport, Kentucky. It is located adjacent to the Purple People Bridge along the Ohio River and boasts views of downtown Cincinnati and the Ohio River. Interstate 471 (I-471) is a Interstate Highway, linking I-71 in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, to I-275 in Highland Heights, Kentucky. South of I-275, the expressway continues south to U.S. Route 27 (US 27) as unsigned Kentucky Route 471 (KY 471).
