Trigg County is a County (United States), county located on the far southwestern border of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 14,061. Its county seat is Cadiz, Kentucky, Cadiz. Formed in 1820, the county was named for Stephen Trigg, an officer in the American Revolutionary War who was killed at the Battle of Blue Licks, now in Robertson County, Kentucky. It was a victory for British and allied troops. Following the Prohibition era, Trigg continued as a prohibition or dry county until 2009. That year the county's voters narrowly approved a referendum to repeal the prohibition on alcohol sales for off-premises consumption. Kentucky Route 80 (KY 80) is a state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky. The route originates on the state's western border at Columbus in Hickman County and stretches across the southern portion of the state, terminating southeast of Elkhorn City on the Virginia state line. It is the longest Kentucky State Highway, though the official distance as listed in route logs is much less due to multiple concurrencies with U.S. Route 68 (US 68) and US 23. The route was split into two segments from 2003 to November 2009. Construction and relocation of KY 80 in Graves, Calloway, and Marshall counties during this time caused the route to be split. A new, four-laned section of KY 80 opened in Calloway County on November 25, 2009. Cadiz ( ) is a home rule-class city and the county seat of Trigg County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,558 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Clarksville metropolitan area. Cadiz is a historic town located close to the Land Between the Lakes, a popular recreation area. It was a base of Union and Confederate operations during the Civil War. It permits the sale of alcoholic beverages. Etymology William Henry Perrin's 1884 ''History of Trigg County'' does not explain the origin of Spanish name of the town. Golden Pond, Kentucky
Golden Pond was a town in western Trigg County, Kentucky, United States. It is now the site of the headquarters of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, west-southwest of Cadiz. Golden Pond was established in the 19th century and became known for its moonshining activity during the Prohibition era. This town was in an area altered during the 1930s and later by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which constructed dams to control flooding and generate electricity for a large rural area. The TVA evicted the last residents of Golden Pond in 1969, when the recreation area was established. Origin Golden Pond shares its name with a pond located at , west of the town. Kentucky Route 139 (KY 139) is a state highway in Kentucky that runs from Tennessee State Route 120 at the Tennessee state line south of Cadiz to Kentucky Route 120 in rural Crittenden County north of Princeton via Cadiz and Princeton. Route description KY 120 begins at the Tennessee state line just west of the Fort Campbell Military Reservation. Its first city it goes through is Cadiz, where it intersects the concurrent U.S. Route 68 (US 68) and KY 80, as well as US 68's business loop in downtown Cadiz. After entering Caldwell County, it then intersects Interstate 24 (I-24) where north of the ramp is the frontage roads, KY 6059 and KY 6060.
