Lecompte ( ) is a town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. Lecompte is situated along the banks of the Red River in central Louisiana. US Highway 71, Louisiana’s major north-south route which connects Baton Rouge and Shreveport, runs through Lecompte. Lecompte is named after a horse called LeComte, which was named after horse breeder Ambrose LeComte. It is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Louisiana Highway 107 (LA 107) is a state highway located in central Louisiana that runs in a north–south direction from U.S. Highway 71 (US 71) in Morrow to a junction with LA 1250 in Pineville at the Pineville Expressway (US 167/LA 28). Along the way, LA 107 services Cottonport, Mansura, and Marksville, intersecting routes such as LA 29, LA 114, and LA 1. Tioga, Louisiana
Tioga is an unincorporated community in northern Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population in 2010 was 1,965. History Tioga originated as a lumber mill town. Swords Lee, who represented Grant Parish in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1904 to 1908, operated a large sawmill there until it closed c. 1917 because of exhaustion of the timber supply. At the Tioga commissary, workers could use their mill script to buy groceries and supplies. Outside workers were paid a quarter per hour; if he worked inside the mill, he earned $3 per day. Many laborers were granted mill housing across the street from the commissary in "shotgun"-style shacks. The mill whistle announced the time to report for work, lunch, and the ending of the work shift. Cheneyville is a town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 625 at the 2010 census. History The town was named for settler William Cheney. Cheneyville is significant in the history of the Restoration Movement associated with Alexander Campbell. In 1843 most of the membership of a Baptist congregation, under the leadership of William Prince Ford, who had been influenced by Campbell's writings, became a Church of Christ. The Cheneyville Christian Church is the oldest congregation associated with the Restoration Movement in Louisiana. In 1857, Campbell visited the congregation and was favorably impressed by its fellowship between the races. McNutt Rural Historic District
McNutt Rural Historic District is located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana around the intersection of Belgard Bend Rd. and Louisiana Highway 121 that make up the rural community of McNutt, Louisiana. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 1988. McNutt is named from "McNutt Hill," itself named for Isaac McNut], the son-in-law of John Texada, a federal land agent in the area in the early 1800s. The area included 28 contributing buildings and 11 non-contributing ones in 1988, along an east-west road (named Belgard Bend Road and/or Mill Race Road) along the curved south side of narrow Bayou Rapides.
