Tilghman, Maryland
Tilghman Island is an island in the Chesapeake Bay. It is part of Talbot County, Maryland, United States. History Initially known as Great Choptank Island, the island became identified with a series of local families. It was owned by Matthew Tilghman's family from 1752 and has been known as Tilghman Island ever since. During the War of 1812 the island was briefly occupied by the British, who obtained provisions for their military forces. The community of Tilghman appeared in the 1840s. Washington College
Washington College is a private liberal arts college in Chestertown, Maryland. Maryland granted Washington College its charter in 1782. George Washington supported the founding of the college by consenting to have the "College at Chester" named in his honor, through generous financial support, and through service on the college's Board of Visitors and Governors. Maryland Route 213
Maryland Route 213 (MD 213) is a state highway located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the United States. The route runs from MD 662 in Wye Mills, Queen Anne's County, north to the Pennsylvania border in Cecil County, where the road continues into that state as Pennsylvania Route 841 (PA 841). The route, which is a two-lane undivided highway most of its length, passes through mainly rural areas as well as the towns of Centreville, Chestertown, Galena, Cecilton, Chesapeake City, and Elkton. MD 213 intersects many routes including U.S. Route 50 (US 50) near Wye Mills, US 301 near Centreville, and US 40 in Elkton. Maryland Route 299
Maryland Route 299 (MD 299) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The highway runs from MD 313 and MD 330 at Massey in eastern Kent County north to U.S. Route 301 (US 301) near Warwick in far southern Cecil County. MD 299 was constructed from Massey to Sassafras around 1930 and from there to MD 282 in Warwick in the early 1930s. The highway between US 301 and MD 282 was transferred to county control in 1958. Route description MD 299 begins at a four-way intersection with MD 313 and MD 330 at the hamlet of Massey in eastern Kent County. MD 313 heads northbound to the west and southbound as Galena Road, and MD 330 heads eastbound as Maryland Line Road. Maryland Route 289 (MD 289) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Quaker Neck Road, the highway runs from the junction of Lands End Road and Cliffs City Road near Cliffs City north to MD 213 in Chestertown. MD 289 serves Quaker Neck, a peninsula between Langford Creek and the Chester River southwest of Chestertown in Kent County. The highway was constructed from Chestertown beginning in the early 1920s, reaching Pomona in the mid-1920s and Cliffs City around 1930. MD 289 was widened between Chestertown and Pomona in the early 1950s. The highway's present termini were established, including a change of streets in Chestertown, in the mid-1980s. Georgetown is an unincorporated community in northeastern Kent County, Maryland, United States. The community was laid out in 1736. Georgetown was named for Prince George who later became King of the United Kingdom. Kennedyville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Kent County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 199. Rock Hall, is a waterfront town located directly on the National Chesapeake Scenic Byway in Kent County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,310 at the 2010 census. History Originally called Rock Hall Crossroads, the city is now a fishing, sailing and recreational boating town situated on the upper Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Still Pond is a census-designated place in Kent County, Maryland, United States. Still Pond is located at the intersection of Maryland routes 292 and 566 on Still Pond Neck, south-southeast of Betterton and north of Chestertown. Much of the community is included in the Still Pond Historic District and it is notable as the first place in Maryland in which women gained the right to vote.
