Mississippi Highway 33 (MS 33) is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. It runs from north to south for and serves the counties of Jefferson, Franklin, Amite, and Wilkinson. Route description MS 33 begins in Wilkinson County at the Louisiana state line, with it continuing south as Louisiana Highway 19 (LA 19) into Norwood. It heads north through woodlands, then farmland for several miles, passing through Whitaker before entering the Centreville city limits and becoming concurrent (overlapped) with MS 24. The highway heads east through a business district as it bypasses downtown along its southern side and crosses into neighboring Amite County, where they have an intersection with MS 48, before leaving Centreville and heading due north through farmland for several miles. ''The Clarion Ledger'' is an American daily newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the second-oldest company in the state of Mississippi, and is one of the few newspapers in the nation that continues to circulate statewide. It is an operating division of Gannett River States Publishing Corporation, owned by Gannett. History The paper traces its roots to ''The Eastern Clarion,'' founded in Jasper County, Mississippi, in 1837. Later that year, it was sold and moved to Meridian, Mississippi. After the American Civil War, it was moved to Jackson, the capital, and merged with ''The Standard''. It soon became known as ''The Clarion''. In 1888, ''The Clarion'' merged with the ''State Ledger'' and became known as the ''Daily Clarion-Ledger''. Four employees who were displaced by the merger founded their own newspaper, ''The Jackson Evening Post'', in 1892. Rodney, Mississippi
Rodney is a former city in Jefferson County in southwest Mississippi, approximately northeast of Natchez. Rodney was founded in 1828, and in the 19th century, it was only three votes away from becoming the capital of the Mississippi Territory. Its population declined to nearly zero after the Mississippi River changed course. The Rodney Center Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today a small number of inhabitants remain, keeping Rodney alive as a hamlet though the internet considers it a ghost town. Reliable data is hard to find as the town is not listed as a separate entity by the census bureau, nor did Google Maps bother to visit it. Union Church is an unincorporated community located in Jefferson County, Mississippi, United States. History The community of Union Church was formed primarily by a group of Scotch settlers who left North Carolina around 1805 for the promise of fertile land to be farmed on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River. The town was originally called Scotch Settlement. The founding families were headed by George Torrey, his son Dougald Torrey, Laughlin Currie and Robert Willis. Mississippi Highway 28 (MS 28) is a state highway in south-central Mississippi, United States, that runs east–west from U.S. Highway 84 (US 84) west of Laurel to US 61/ MS 33 in Fayette. It travels approximately , serving Jefferson, Copiah, Simpson, Smith, and Jones counties. MS 28 is a largely two-lane, paved road that travels east and west across central Mississippi. The route does have several dangerous intersections and sharp curves, the most notable being the intersection with MS 37 in Taylorsville and the intersection with MS 35 in Mize.
