Pennsylvania Route 36
Pennsylvania Route 36 (PA 36) is a long state highway located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at PA 26 near the Hopewell Township community of Yellow Creek. The northern terminus is at PA 27 and PA 227 in Pleasantville. One of the longest and oldest highways in the commonwealth, PA 36 serves as a major connector between South Central and Northwestern Pennsylvania. In 1955, the highway was designated as the Colonel Drake Highway in honor of Edwin Drake. Route description Bedford and Blair counties PA 36 begins in the Bedford County hamlet of Yellow Creek at PA 26 along the Tussey Mountain range. Foxburg, Pennsylvania
Foxburg is a borough in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located along the east bank of the Allegheny River, about north of the mouth of the Clarion River. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 181. History The town takes its name from the Fox family of Philadelphia, former owners of the land upon which the town was built. Samuel Mickle Fox (1763-1808), along with his brother George and brothers-in-law Joseph Parker Norris and George Roberts, purchased a number of tracts of land in western Pennsylvania from the Commonwealth during the 1790s. Six of these tracts, numbered #5725-5730, comprising , were contiguous and located along the Allegheny north of its confluence with Toby's Creek (today's Clarion River). The present town of Foxburg is located on what was designated tract #5729. Farmington Township is a township in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,785 at the 2020 census, a decrease from 1,934 at the 2010 census. Geography The township is located in the northeastern corner of Clarion County and is bordered by Forest County to the north and east. A small part of the eastern border of the township touches Jefferson County. The Clarion River forms the southeastern border of the township. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.36%, is water. The unincorporated communities of Tylersburg, Leeper, Crown, and Vowinckel are in the township. Clarion, Pennsylvania
Clarion is a borough in and the county seat of Clarion County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located north-northeast of Pittsburgh and is part of the Pittsburgh DMA. Clarion was settled in 1839 and incorporated in 1841. In the past, the surrounding area produced natural gas, oil, lumber and coal. The population was 2,004 in 1900, 2,864 in 1910, and 3,931 at the 2020 census, down from 5,276 at the 2010 census. It is home to the annual Autumn Leaf Festival and Clarion University of Pennsylvania. The county courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Licking Township is a township that is located in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 573 at the time of the 2020 census, an increase from the figure of 536 tabulated in 2010. Geography The township is located in western Clarion County. The Clarion River winds through the township, forming part of the northern border and part of the western border but also bending southwards to pass through the center of the township, past the borough of Callensburg, a separate municipality surrounded by the township. Clarion River
The Clarion River is a tributary of the Allegheny River, approximately 110 mi (177 km) long, in west central Pennsylvania in the United States. It drains a rugged area of the Allegheny Plateau in the Ohio River watershed, flowing through narrow serpentine valleys and hardwood forests. Course The river is formed at Johnsonburg in central Elk County by the confluence of its East and West Branches. The East Branch, approximately 15 mi (24 km) long, rises in northeastern Elk County and flows southwest through East Branch Clarion River Lake to join the West Branch. The river flows generally west-southwest across western Pennsylvania in a tight meandering course past Ridgway and Clarion.
