National Radio Foundation
The National Radio Foundation ( el, Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ραδιοφωνίας, ΕΙΡ, ''Ethniko Idryma Radiofonias'', EIR), was the main public state broadcaster of Greece from 1945 until 1970. The agency was founded in 1945, following liberation from the Axis occupation of Greece, as the successor of the occupation-era ''Hellenic Radio Limited Company'' (AERE) and the pre-war ''Radio Broadcast Service'' (YRE). EIR was one of 23 founding broadcasting organisations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950. It started offering television services in 1966, the same year that the second public broadcaster, the military-run Armed Forces Television (TED), also began operations. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU; french: Union européenne de radio-télévision, links=no, UER) is an alliance of Public broadcasting, public service media organisations whose countries are within the European Broadcasting Area or who are member states of the Council of Europe, members of the Council of Europe. , it is made up of 112 member organizations from 54 countries, and 31 associate members from a further 20 countries. The Armed Forces Information Service ( el, Υπηρεσία Ενημερώσεως Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, ΥΕΝΕΔ, ''Ypiresia Enimeroseos Enoplon Dynameon'', ''YENED'') was the television and radio station of the Greek Armed Forces, operating from 1966 until its conversion to a civilian broadcaster in 1982.
