National Prize For Journalism (Chile)
The National Prize for Journalism ( es, Premio Nacional de Periodismo), part of the National Prize of Chile, has been awarded since 1954. It was created by Law 11479 in 1953. It was granted annually until 1972, when Law 17595 changed it to a biennial prize. From 1954 to 1963, it was granted in the categories writing, feature, and photography. In 1964 the drawing category was added. Between 1975 and 1993, mention was made of the winner's category. Other important prizes in the same category, granted by individuals, are the Lenka Franulic Award (1963), the Embotelladora Andina Award (1979), and the Chilean Security Association Carmen Puelma Award (1994). María Olivia Mönckeberg Pardo (born 29 May 1944) is a Chilean journalist, essayist, and academic. She received the National Prize for Journalism (Chile), National Prize for Journalism in 2009. Juan Pablo Cárdenas Squella (born 1 December 1949) is a Chilean journalist and academic who has founded and directed multiple periodicals. He has won numerous awards for his work defending freedom of the press. Born in Santiago, Cárdenas attended and as a child. Patricia del Cármen Verdugo Aguirre (October 20, 1947 – January 13, 2008) was a Chilean journalist, writer and human rights activist. She focused much of her investigative reporting on the human rights abuses committed by the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. She was a recipient of the National Prize for Journalism (Chile), National Prize for Journalism and the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes. Early life Verdugo was born in 1947. Julio Martínez (journalist)
Julio Martínez Prádanos (Temuco, Chile, June 23, 1923 – Santiago, Chile, January 2, 2008) was a Chilean sports commentator specializing in football who had a long career in the written press, radio and television. He won the 1995 National Prize for Journalism, awarded by the Chilean Ministry of Education. He belongs to a generation of ever-lasting emblematic Chilean sports commentators, along with Sergio Livingstone, Pedro Carcuro, Alberto Fouillioux, Néstor Isella and Milton Millas. Martínez died of terminal prostate cancer on January 2, 2008, after years of failing health. Pilar Vergara (born 23 June 1947) is a Chilean journalist, winner of the National Prize for Journalism in 1993. Career Pilar Vergara is the daughter of Ruperto Vergara Santa Cruz, a publicist and farmer from La Calera, and Olga Tagle. She is the granddaughter of distinguished jurist and diplomat Ruperto Vergara Bulnes. She studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (UC), graduating in 1968. Subsequently, she worked at Canal 13, on the program ''Pasado meridiano'', and at the newspaper ''El Mercurio'', where she participated in the Sunday Reports section.
