National Photographic Portrait Prize
The National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual portraiture competition held at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Australia. The major sponsor of the prize in 2022 is the gallery itself, which awards to the winner, while Canon provides camera equipment worth over . In earlier years VISA was the major sponsor of the prize. Portrait
A portrait is a portrait painting, painting, portrait photography, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expressions are predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, Personality type, personality, and even the mood of the person. Dean Sewell (photographer)
Dean Sewell (b 1972) is an Australian documentary photographer. He has won a number of awards. He lives in Sydney. Life and work Sewell grew up in Sydney and started his career as a news photographer for ''The Sydney Morning Herald''. His first major award was in 1994 when he received the Nikon-Walkley Australian Press Photographer of the Year. Based in Moscow in 1996 and 1997, Sewell covered the First Chechen War and Russian Federal Elections as well as documenting social issues in the Post-Soviet states. Sewell's series on The Block, an Aboriginal community in Redfern, an inner suburb of Sydney, was showcased at the Visa pour l'image festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France. In 2001, Sewell was a co-founder of the Australian documentary photography collective Oculi. In the early 20th century, Australian photography was heavily influenced by the Pictorialist approach. Andrew Rovenko (born 1978) is an Australian photographer of Ukrainian origin who is based in Melbourne. He is known for his award-winning Rocketgirl Chronicles series that was captured in Victoria's coronavirus lockdown. Anne Zahalka
Anne Zahalka (born 1957) is an Australian artist and photographer. Her work is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Victoria, State Library of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Australia. In 2005, she was the recipient of the Leopold Godowsky Award at the Photographic Resource Centre in Boston. Early life and education Zahalka was born to a Jewish Austrian mother and Catholic Czech father. Her parents met and married in England during the Second World War. Mark Tedeschi
Mark Tedeschi, (born 1952) is an Australian barrister, law professor, photographer and author. He is in private practice at Wardell Chambers in Sydney. He was formerly the Senior Crown prosecutor for New South Wales and the Head of Chambers of the 100 or so Crown prosecutors. He was the founder and president of the Australian Association of Crown Prosecutors and is a visiting professor at the University of Wollongong. As a prosecutor, Tedeschi was best known for the prosecution of numerous high-profile cases in Australia, including the backpacker murders committed by Ivan Milat in the 1990s. Alexia Sinclair
Alexia Sinclair (born 1976) is an Australian fine-art photographer. She studied Fine Arts in Sydney at The National Art School (1995–1998). She majored in traditional photography and her studies in painting, drawing, sculpture, and art history were all influential to her work.
