National Marian Shrine, Mariamabad
The National Marian Shrine in Mariamabad, Sheikhupura District, Pakistan is a National Shrine, and since 1949, has been the site of an annual pilgrimage on September 8 for the Feast of the Nativity of Mary. Approximately 2 million Catholics of Pakistan these are days of celebration. Many of them, in recent days, have taken to the road on a journey to Mariamabad, which means the ”City of Mary” in the Urdu language. Known as one of Pakistan's oldest Catholic settlements, it is about 80 km from the Punjab's capital of Lahore. Covering an area of 835 hectares (2,000 acres), Mariamabad has become an important pilgrimage site for over one million believers annually. Mariamabad was founded in 1892. Sheikhupura ( pa, ; ur, ) also known as Qila Sheikhupura, is a city in the Pakistani province of Punjab, Pakistan, Punjab. Founded by the Mughal Empire, Mughal Emperor Jahangir, Jehangir in 1607, Sheikhupura is the List of most populous cities in Pakistan, 16th largest city of Pakistan by population and is the headquarters of Sheikhupura District. The city is an industrial center, and satellite town, located about 38 km northwest of Lahore. It is also connected to District Kasur. Sebastian Francis Shaw
Sebastian Francis Shaw (born 14 November 1957) is a Pakistani Roman Catholic archbishop. He was born in Padri Jo Goth, Sindh, Pakistan on 14 November 1957. He received his early education at Fatima High School and attended the Government Degree College. He received his religious training under the Order of Friars Minor and at the Christ the King seminary in Karachi and was ordained a priest in Lahore, Pakistan on 6 December 1991. Before joining the Franciscans he was a teacher. He was rector of the Juniorate and Postulancy of Dar ul Naim Seminary in Lahore from 1991 until 1995, taught at St. Mary's Minor Seminary, Lahore, and has also been Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor in Pakistan. The Apostolic Nunciature to Pakistan is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Pakistan. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. The Nunciature was located in St. Anthony’s Parish (Karachi) in its Chancellery at old Clifton when the Vatican established diplomatic relations with Pakistan in 1950. When the capital of Pakistan was moved to Islamabad in 1965, the Nunciature was re-located to the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad. Christophe Zakhia El-Kassis (born 24 August 1968 in Beirut, Lebanon) is a Lebanese Catholic bishop, diplomat, and Maronite archbishop. Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference
The Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference (PCBC) is the episcopal conference of the Catholic bishops of Pakistan. Its objectives are to facilitate coordinated study and discussion of issues affecting the Church, and adoption of a common policy and effective action in all matters concerning the Church in Pakistan. The Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference decided on 18 April 1990 to build this new seminary for philosophical studies in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore. The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lahore is a Latin Metropolitan Archdiocese in Punjab province, Pakistan. Its episcopal seat is the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore. History In 1594 the Mughal emperor Akbar invited some Catholic priests from Goa to stay permanently at his court. This group of Jesuit missionaries arrived in the Punjab and were able to build a church, where they celebrated Christian ceremonies, and receive adults into the Church. Lawrence John Saldanha (born 12 June 1936) is an Indian-born retired Pakistani archbishop. Born in Mangalore, India, he received his religious training at the Christ the King seminary in Karachi and was ordained a priest in Lahore, Pakistan on 16 January 1960. Biography He also earned a doctorate in systematic theology from Rome-based Pontifical Urbaniana University. He participated in the Second Vatican Council. He served in different parishes in Lahore. He served from 1971 to 1974 as editor of the Catholic Naqib, the Archdiocese's Urdu bimonthly.
