National Highway 544H, commonly referred to as NH 544H is a national highway of India. It starts from NH 44 near Thoppur, passes through Mettur, Bhavani and terminates at Erode. It intersects NH 544 near Lakshmi Nagar, Erode. Route Thoppur, Mechcheri, Mettur, Nerinchipettai, Ammapettai, Chittar Bhavani, Erode road. Junctions : Terminal near Thoppur. : near Lakshmi Nagar, Erode. : near Central Bus Terminus, Erode. Project development Post declaration of this national highway on 6 June 2017, process of 4 laning of road has been taken up. Recently in 2022, the stretch from Thoppur to R.N.Pudur in Erode has been sanctioned for upgrading into 2 lane with paved shoulders for a length of 85km under 4 packages and the work is in progress. Thoppur
Thoppur(தொப்பூர்) or Thoppur Ghat(தொப்பூர் கணவாய்) is a hill town in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, India.It lies between the city of Salem and the city of Dharmapuri on National Highway 44, at its junction with Mettur Dam Road ( SH 20). It is north of the city of Salem and south of the city of Dharmapuri. Thoppur is known for the Thoppaiyaru Dam, Anjaneyar Koil (Mutthampatty), Rope Winch, and Perumal Kovil (on Vanagunda Hill). National Highway 544, commonly referred to as NH 544, (''old number'' NH 47) is a National Highway in South India connecting Salem city in Tamil Nadu to the city of Kochi in Kerala. It is also called the Salem-Kochi Highway. The highway runs through the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, connecting various important cities and towns such as Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kochi. It is a spur of National Highway 44, which forms the North South Corridor of the National Highway network of India.It passes south of Coimbatore. The National highways in India are a network of trunk roads owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. National highways have flyover access or some controlled-access, where entrance and exit is through the side of the flyover, at each intersection of highways flyovers are provided to bypass the city/town/village traffic and these highways are designed for speed of 100 km/hr. Some national highways have interchanges in between but they don't have total controlled-access throughout the highways. It is constructed and managed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and the public works departments (PWD) of state governments. On 28 April 2010, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially published a new numbering system for the National Highway network in the Gazette of the Government of India. It is a systematic numbering scheme based on the orientation and the geographic location of the highway. This was adopted to ensure more flexibility and consistency in the numbering of existing and new national highways. As per the new numbering system: * All north-south oriented highways will have even numbers increasing from the east to the west. * All east-west oriented highways will have odd numbers increasing from the north to the south. * All major Highways will be single digit or double digit in number. * Three-digit numbered highways are secondary routes or branches of a main highway. The secondary route number is prefixed to the number of the main highway.
