A National Guard Armory, National Guard Armory Building, or National Guard Readiness Center is any one of numerous buildings of the U.S. National Guard where a unit trains, meets, and parades. A readiness center supports the training, administration, and logistics of National Guard units by providing assembly space, classrooms, weapons and protective personal equipment storage, and training space. Readiness centers can also be utilized as communal assembly areas, utilized by local organizations and governments. Villisca National Guard Armory
The Villisca National Guard Armory is a historic building located in Villisca, Iowa, United States. History Villisca had active military units as far back as 1877. Local citizens raised the funds to build the armory, which was completed in 1913. Company F participated in the following military actions: Mexican Expedition, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. The building was used for a variety of community events in addition to activities for the Iowa National Guard. It was used as the gymnasium for the local high school until 1959. Ownership of the building was transferred from the Villisca Armory Corporation to the State of Iowa in 1973, and in 2000 it was transferred to the Villisca Community School District. During the 2000-2001 school year it was used for classroom space when the present high school building was under construction. A drill hall is a place such as a building or a hangar where soldiers practise and perform military drills. Description In the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, the term was used for the whole headquarters building of a military reserve unit, which usually incorporated such a hall. Many of these drill halls were built through public subscriptions in order to support the local Volunteer Force which was raised in the late 1850s. Schenectady Armory
The Schenectady Armory is located on Washington Avenue in the city of the same name in the U.S. state of New York. It is a brown brick building dating to 1936. New York's state architect at that time, William Haugaard, used the Art Deco architectural style for the exterior of the building and the Tudorbethan mode for the interior. The armory remains virtually intact today. It was home to two units of the New York Army National Guard until it was closed in 2008. In 1995 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hoosick Falls Armory
The Hoosick Falls Armory is located along Church Street ( NY 22) in Hoosick Falls, New York, United States. It is a red brick building with castellated tower dating to the late 19th century. One of many armories in New York designed by state architect Isaac G. Perry, it is one of his earlier armories, more restrained and less imposing than those he built later in his career. It has remained mostly intact since its construction. The military units of the New York National Guard based there, first mustered during the American Civil War, have fought in the 1916 Mexican Border Campaign, in Belgium during World War I, and the Battle of Saipan during World War II. It is closed as a military facility and currently houses the Hoosick Armory Youth Center and Community Coalition, abbreviated as HAYC3, which runs community events and provides studio and office space to small area businesses.
